There were sixteen by-elections held in North Ahjeezistan between 28 January 1972, when the Social Democrats under Lord Hartley were re-elected to government, and 8 March, 1973, when thier majority was lost to the Liberal Conservatives under Lord Terresond, who had the support of Lord Braunglen's Liberal Democrats.

This by-election was called upon the successful recall of Social Democratic MP Larry Boehner. It was the first of the "Bloody Twentieth" recalls. Recalled MP Larry Boehner asked Social Democrats to vote for the Liberal Democratic candidate over the Liberal Conservative one.
