The small island, located in the Secocian sea, eastern of Latao's mainland is currently a special-autonomy region that the Confederacy of Latao claims as its territory. Fact is that the island’s international status is not yet clearly defined. Nyssa has been inhabited by the Latin people for centuries as they are sharing language and culture.

Being a special-autonomy zone means, that the island is not currently a fully District in the Confederacy. Nyssa has its own government but requires the big “father-land” of Latao in many matters. The Federal President of Latao has the latest word over all important and international affairs that affect the island.

The Confederacy wishes to integrate Nyssa regularly as its 16th district, but this plan is controversial inside the nation, because the island is not that well developed as the mainland and might need intensive financial care.

The opinion on the island itself is more complicated. Some parties would like to join Latao officially as a District under the Constitution of the Confederacy of Latao, while the majority obviously favorites the status quo. There is even a violent group of separatists that demand independence for Nyssa, which Latao always has rejected in past.

The Confederacy considers the Nyssa-question as an internal affair and does currently not wish the Atlantian Oceania Regional Council to interfere. It’s not clear if the Nyssanians wish that. The only group that explained they would like to call the Regional Council are fundamental separatist groups that the Confederacy declared ‘Terrorists’. The fact, that these groups do not dissociates them selves from violence, probably makes that call irrelevant.

As mentioned above, Nyssa has its own government, elected directly by the people of the island. The head of the government, the “Prime Minister” is however chosen by the National Executive Committee of the Confederacy of Latao.
