King Olav I., of the ancestry of Gulaagre, was the second king of Skatval. He was the oldest son of Harold I. of Skatval, and served as king from 1243 to 1279.
Olav was crown as king by his younger brother, Inge the Wise, after their fathers death in 1243. Olav was the first Christian king of Skatval, but wasn't so lucky as his father during his period as king: Skatval was attacked several times in the areas along the north-eastern borders, but Olav managed them all, and Skatval remained independent.
Olav built up a strong realationship to other mighty ancestries in Skatval, and The Fljoðars became the nearest ally. Olav learned many languages, and was very intelligent. He spoke Old Norse, Trøndersk, Norwegian, Swedish and German, and studied subjects like geography, religion and politics.
Olav married Astrid (surname unknown) some time about 1250, and they got three children:
- King Harold II. of Skatval
- Alvhild
- Fjertfrid
Olav died sometime during the autumn of 1279, after a short period of illness.
