Operation NESTOR

Operation NESTOR was a military operation during the war between Texana and Germanistan. The Texanian forces had been batteled to a stalemate by Germanistan at the river Theide and all over the west of Helgebaldia during Operation GREIFF. Operation NESTOR had two goals:

  • Removal of remaining Texanian presence from the territory Germanistan had reoccupied during GREIFF, but had not cleaned completely of Texanian forces, since a small outpost to the north was still held by Texania. Germanistan at that time occupied and subsequently demolished all bridges necessary to supply this outpost, but nover moved troops into the region to remove the outpost itself. Since most of the resources still available to the forces in the area were put into achieving the second goal, and because time was running out, the first goal was assigned to a small force of Cormerran troops, which should have landed close to the enemy base, demolish defenses and soon after that receive support from a small force of Germanistan soldiers that were currently moving northwards in the last APCs availabe.
  • Capturing supply bases and ressource points west of the river. These points were held by a massive Texanian force, and ressources available to the operation were minimal. Still, the operation against these supply bases was to proceed in a similar way to Operation GREIFF: Airstrikes followed by paratrooper assaults. The massive deployment of ground forces had to be left out because of the destroyed bridges, which also spared alot of ressources. The resource points were poorly defended against aerial attacks, and, although it was commonly known that even if the paratroops managed to capture the site, they would be unable to hold it, it was thought that this would deliver a painful blow to the Texanians. In addition, the fact that the bridges had been destroyed allowed the Germanistans to use the full power of their long-range missiles to reinforce their airstrikes, instead of using them to destroy the bridges, like they had done when both sides of the river were still in the hands of the Texanians.

The strike against the base to the north was a failure: The Texanians ordered air support, and the small force of attackers was easily defeated. This upset Eisen Isenmar, who couldn't accept that such a ridiculously small outpost could withstand his forces. He order a missile strike on the outpost, which drew power from the airstrike capacity that was designated to clear the way for the paratroopers west of the Theide (There were only few missiles and launchers available, and reloading took it's time). Thus, the rest of the operation was aborted in order to spare the few resources from being wasted on an operation that would propably fail. However, the paratroops were already underway, dropped at their target locations and found that Texanian forces in the area had not been destroyed. Two battalions of paratroops - Storm Troops and Jaegers - were lost this way, before the Germanistan command redesignated the remains of the operation "NESTOR II", including the missile strike on the outpost, moved more troops into the remains of the outpost to deal with any survivors. This time, the force had been equipped with adequate air defense. Then, a series of missiles and airstrikes was launched at the original targets of operation NESTOR, followed by the last available paratroopers. The resource points and supply bases were succesfully captured, though soon after lost to a Texanian counterstrike. Yet, they were efficently demolished, denying the Texanian army of a (though small) part of their supplies. However this influenced the final outcome in the region (which was a clear victory for Germanistan) remains disputed.
