Laurasia has a set of several independent police services that are defined by purpose. Along with this, Laurasia also uses several totalitarian forms of mass surveillance and policing such as two-way televisions, massive scale video monitoring, wire tapping, etc. This scale of policing, surveillance, and the like classifies the Totalitarian Oligarchy as a police state. This title causes strained relations between Laurasia and some within the international community. Yet, the nation refuses to change its ways.

Civil Protection

The base level of policing is that of the Civil Protection Service (simply known as Civil Protection;or Civpro in Lausem). The CPS is active in virtually every city, town, and village within Laurasia. The CPS patrol day and night and often walk the streets to catch criminals and possibly unorthodox individuals.

The CPS maintain the mass surveillance equipment on the base level of society. They insure that each surveillance unit is maintained in perfect condition as to relay the Party’s message to the Laurasian people. They are not, however, responsible for monitoring the massive amount of surveillance equipment present in the Laurasia strata of society.

The CPS is administered under the Lawful Cooperative. Along with this administering role, the Inner Party is also present within the CPS as officers and are responsible for discipline and executive actions carried out by the Civil Protection Service.

Overwatch

The secret police of Laurasia is known as the Overwatch (a condensed form of the name Surveillance and Executive Watch Over the Totalitarian Oligarchy). The Overwatch is the eyes behind the two-way televisions and the loudspeakers that line the streets within Laurasia. The Overwatch administer the mass surveillance of the entire Oligarchy insuring that orthodoxy is upheld.

The Overwatch are also responsible for the forced disappearance and rendition of suspected thousands of political criminals and unorthodox members of society within Laurasia. The Overwatch also use psychology, torture, etc. in order to suppress those who can potentially threaten the ruling authority over Laurasia.

Overwatch is often compared to the Gestapo of Nazi Germany, the KGB of the Soviet Union, and the FBI of the late United States. Including these comparisons, the international community has begun to believe that the Overwatch is one of - if not the - most oppressive, powerful, and omnipresent secret police ever to exist on earth. The Overwatch are also administered by the Lawful Cooperative. Due to this, they often work in cooperation with the Civil Protection Service in order to capture criminals of the state and either imprison them or place them up for summary destruction.

Constabulary

The Constabulary (short for Laurasion National Military Constabulary) is - simply - the military police within Laurasia. Unlike the Overwatch and CPS, the Constabulary does not usually worry with the workings of civilian populations. Their main concern is that of the policing of the Laurasian armed forces. Yet, certain extenuating circumstances have been known to arise in which the Constabulary are responsible for the policing of civilian populations.

Usually, these extenuating circumstances often involve either ambassadorial complex security, diplomatic security detail, or occupied territory policing. As stated, the LNMC is responsible for guarding embassies and consulates around the world. Also, they serve as security forces for both foreign and domestic diplomatic officers. Including these professions, the Constabulary is also responsible for securing and policing war zones and occupied territories - insuring the safety of Laurasian military and political figures.

Unlike the CPS and Overwatch, the LNMC is administered under the Peaceful Cooperative instead of that of the Lawful Cooperative. This places the Constabulary under military jurisdiction allowing it special executive and extrajudicial powers not officially recognized (but still suspected to occur) within the other policing units.

Mass surveillance

Mass surveillance within Laurasia is not often as openly seen as some expect. Massive televisions (known as Instruments; most popularly seen on the walls of the Oligarchical Palace) with two-way monitoring systems, constant home surveillance, communication surveillance, and hundreds of other techniques are used to keep constant watch on citizens of Laurasia.

This massive level of governmental surveillance has drawn criticism from Western countries around the world. Democracies and some benevolent dictatorships have often cast blame upon Laurasia for its “fascist policies which give benevolent authorities a bad name.” However, the Laurasian government has refused to cease its virtually omnipresent surveillance.

A newer version of surveillance has been added to the massive televisions and production propaganda around the country: loudspeakers. These speakers (and those within the two-way televisions) announce news, propaganda, and governmental proclamations at virtually all hours of the night. Including news and propaganda, the loudspeakers are also responsible for waking individuals for daily labor and informing them when breaks are beginning and ending. This extends to home based two-way televisions and speakers.

This amount of mass surveillance is not even present in nations such as Parthia and Roach-Busters, but it has been praised by totalitarian nations around the world.
