His Royal Highness Prince Rupprecht, Duke of Iksander (Rupprect Wilhelm Leopold Philipp Ernst Ludwig Alexander), styled HRH The Duke of Iksander (born 14 December, 1891) is the eldest son of King Philipp II of Alessandri and Lady Elisabeth Bauer, and is heir apparent to the throne of Alessandri.

Biography

His Highness Prince Rupprecht of Altec was born at Schloss Ottosbrun, his parents' primary residence, on December 14, 1891. He was the fourth child of his father, then Duke of Altec. A sister, Sophie, was nearly ten years older than he was, and two other siblings, Adalbert and Gabriella, died at birth. As the great-nephew of the reigning monarch, Prince Rupprecht was styled His Highness at birth. He was christened in the royal chapel of St. Rudolf's Cathedral on January 14, 1892.

In early May of 1892, when Rupprecht was six months old, his older sister Sophie fell ill with diphtheria. In order to protect Rupprecht and his mother, they were evacuated to the king's summer villa, Schloss Hanover to avoid the disease. The Duke of Altec stayed behind her help nurse his daughter back to help, but Sophie died on May 28. The funeral was Rupprecht's first official function, and many mournfully noted that their little prince, dressed in a black velvet mourning gown, would have a life with tragedy.

Rupprecht was joined by two younger brothers, Nikolaus in 1895, and Theodor in 1898. The three brothers were close, and both Rupprecht and Nikolaus were devastated when Theodor died in 1902 of meningitis.

Rupprecht was educated at the Royal Military Academy of Alessandri, beginning in the fall term of 1900, shortly before his ninth birthday. His younger brother joined him there in 1903. Rupprecht graduated in 1904 as sixth in his class of 403 pupils. The thirteen-year-old then went on to study at Hanover College, a prestigious school in Saalfeld region, the first prince to attend a non-military secondary school, graduating third in a class of 143 students in 1909.

In 1905, King Adalbert elevated Rupprecht and Nikolaus to the status of Royal Highness.

In 1910, his great-uncle, Adalbert VIII died, and his father acended the throne as King Philipp II. Rupprecht and his younger brother were awarded ducal titles, and in addition to becoming Crown Prince, Rupprecht was given the title 'Duke of Iksander.'

Marriage & Family

On July 12, 1916, Rupprecht married Cecilie, Countess of Arnheim in the Royal Chapel of St. Rudolf's Cathedral. Cecilie wore a replica of the same gown worn by Princess Marie of Alepente, the consort of King Eduard III. The newlyweds spent their first three months of marriage in a wing of the Neues Palais before moving to his childhood home, Schloss Ottosbrun, where the Crown Prince and Princess still currently reside.

Prince Rupprecht, as the son of the king, will, excluding various circumstances, one day be king of Alessandri. In accordance, he has been groomed since birth for the day when he will acceed to the throne.
