Properly speaking, the term pundit refers to a person who offers mass-media commentary or analysis of their area of expertise be it politics, the social sciences, international relations or sport. The term, at least in many democratic nations, has increasingly been applied to commentators lacking any real expertise and often intensely partisan and prejudicial in their commentary. This has given the term something of a negative connotation and it is now often used in slang to refer to any politically biased person pretending to be neutral.
