The Government of Rathanan is very powerful and controling dictatorship. Rathanan does not, however, have the problem that other totalitarian nations face with incredibly bad or insane rulers. The reason for this is that all Holy Emperors, while easily dynastic in nature, are analyzed and anointed by the Church of Rathanan. History
Beginnings
The landmass that would become the Holy Empire of Rathanan began as part of the Holy Roman Empire. Rathanan itself was a very important part to the Holy Roman Empire and was even called at times "a miniature Rome." The problems between Rathanan and the Holy Roman Empire began with the beginning of the selling of indulgences and other forms of corruption in the church. While the people of Rathanan grew weary of this, they remained quiet as they feared retribution from Rome. However, when Martin Luther began the Protestant Reformation in 1517, the people became more vocal. The bishiop in charge of Rathanan, Alexander Dennali, who growing weary of Rome's corruption as well, turned the growing anti Roman sentiment into full scale revolution. After a bloody 7 year revolution, the people of Rathanan finally drove the Holy Roman Empire out of their nation and declared their independance. The people were quick to make Alexander Dennali their leader. Dennali quickly did away with the Roman Catholic Church and quickly established the Church of Rathanan, which was basically Lutheranism with some revisions. Dennali also set a standard for how the Holy Emperor of Rathanan would be appointed (see government).
