Rolatia is a huge country in the middle of Albion (watch this space for a map). It is renowned for its first class political freedoms and civil rights. Despite having a third-world economy, it is a paradise for those who are oppressed in their own countries. It has a mainly English population. However, Japanese is regarded as a semi-official language as it is spoken by many academics in the country. It is not the main language but as Japan is one of the premier technological powers, it is used by enough people to regard it as an offical language (albeit a secondary one in most cases)

History

Rolatia was originally a freelance country, residing in the East Pacific ocean. Dr Edwards's government had come to power in the first election since becoming independent from Britain (ironically, Edwards was born and bred in England) However, it soon moved to the Eastern Bloc where one of the members had close links with Dr Edwards. That same member walked out to form Albion very soon after, and Rolatia followed them to establish roots that still last today.

Rolatia was one of the founding members of the Governing Council of Albion, a establishment set up by five countries early on in Albion's history to determine voting protocols on such things as UN votes. Of these countries, Rolatia is sadly the only survivor. It was created almost at the same time as Albion and has stayed with it throuigh thick and thin.

Government Goals

The government is built around the premise of civil and political rights for all, and the education and welfare of its many citizens. Its economy has fallen by the wayside but it still stands strong as a shining beacion of hope. It has been forced to adopt the controversial strategy of trade concessions for humanitarian aid recently, but it declares this is not an attack on freedom of refugees but a necessary step to boost the economic prowess of this huge nation, as right now it cannot quite afford some of its technological aims to make Rolatia the most advanced nation on Earth - the great dream of Dr Edwards, a keen technologist and an expert in the field of computers. They have driven the basic cost of living down extremely low making life better in total

Technology

The Rolatian army is very small in times of peace and is regarded as virtually non-existent. However, their technological status is currently post modern (see Tech Level]] and despite having no definitive military technology that is known yet they have highly advance computing systems. Their systems are around the best in the world and are getting to a state where they are starting to resemble primitive future-tech systems. They are also extremely cheap, with systems that would be almost supercomputers in 2005 (5GHZ, 1TB hardrive, 4GB RAM) selling for as little as 300 generis (that's around $10) due to their technology becoming almost obsolete. This is good considering the GDP per capita is around $500 a year. They also have achieved tiny food costs thanks to superb advances. It has cost the nation finacially in total but it had made sure their necessities are met for so much cheaper. The Rolatia technological base is geared to peace, not war

The Leader

Dr Joseph Edwards is the current elected leader of Rolatia, and has been for many years. His oppossing parties have gained some foothold in government, but their strength changes majorly each election and they have never topped 40% total power. Dr Edwards was born in south-east England. He enjoyed a privileged upbringing in total from a working-to-middle class family. He was very intelligent and went on to go to Oxford University, where he gained his doctorship in Information Technology. He also had many qualifications in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Geography and Chemistry among other things. He rose to power when in 2014 the 5 million strong Rolatia was made independent. His LibDem Socialists rose to power on the November 9th elections that year in spite of quite tough opposition. He was a left-wing radical, commited to helping provide for the people better, improving education and helping immigrants who wanted to live here among other things. He guided the country to its huge strength today. His pioneering projects in agriculture and information technology helped people live for much less money than before. He also made the country a civil rights and political freedoms haven. The typical Rolatian is well-fed and free from persecution. His advances have come at a steep downside. The economy is currently struggling, with a GDP per capita of $500 per year. This is the reason his opposers in the far right "All for Himself" capitalist party have gained some support, at between 15 and 30% a year on average. He himself has retreated slightly from the left wing in an attempt to boost an ailing economy, but he still is determined that rights and freedoms come first

Political Parties

LibDem Socialists (LDS)
Slogan: Intelligence is the highest asset
Political Stance: Left-wing. Devoted to rights and freedoms of citizens
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: The definitive political party since the 2024 elections. They have never held less than a 60% stake in the House of Democracy. Very popular with the common people. Not so good with the upper classes, who accuse them of ruining the economy. They are trying to recover it now, but not at the expense of the people in general. They are still widely favoured.
All for Himself(All-Self)
Slogan: Every man shapes his own destiny
Political Stance: Extreme right-wing. Believe that the economy and businesses are the priority
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: The main challenger to the LDS's rule. They have gained support by strong capitalists who believe this policy is the only way to bring the country into an economic golden age, even if it does mean a bit of muscling around people in the process. They have opposition from groups such as worker's unions
Neo-Communists(Neo-Com)
Slogan: People under the guidance of the state
Political Stance: Extreme left-wing. Want old-style communism in Rolatia
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: The main left-wing challenger to the LDS. Extremely opposed to the All-Self party. Want the government to take control of all media outlets and the economy. Badly supported in total due to the country's commitment to a free press and economy
Rolatian National Party (RNP)
Slogan: Rolatia first
Political Stance: Fascists. Want immediate destruction of multi-culturaism
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: The KKK of Rolatia. They want immediate deporation of foreign nationals and apartite between English Rolatians and all other Rolatians. Hated by the public and especially Dr Edwards himself, who famously called the party 'an ink blot on the grand tapestry that is our great country'.
Conservative Party(Tory)
Slogan: Balance is Power
Political Stance: Centrists. Want to draw a compromise between civil rights and the economy
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: A moderate party, who desire a less extreme policy than the other notable parties. They demand that we do not neglect the economy in favour of excessive rights, and vice-versa. They are picking up votes fast and look like a major threat to the All-Self party's position as they have just edged ahead of them in the 2048 election, which spells trouble for the All-Self party
Christian Democracts (Demo-Christ)
Slogan: God is the ultimate ruler
Political Stance: Moderate-to-radical left wing. Want more religion funding and compulsory church for Christians
Members of the House: COMING SOON
Notes: A vrey religious party. They believe that in a country where nearly four-fifths (78%) of the population are Christian, that there should be better pro-religion support. They chiefly want all Christians to visit church every Sunday. They are opposed by the LDS who believe in 'freedom of method of worship', a process strongly supported by Dr Edwards himself
