Many NS nations profess the Christian Roman Catholic religion and loyalty to the Holy See. Unlike the real world, however, there is little unity among declared Catholics. Large number of Catholic nations profess allegiance to one of NS Pope pretendents, such as Pope Leo of the Holy Vatican See. Others acknowledge only the real-life Pope, usually the current John Paul II, but sometimes a past, future, or alternative one, in accordance with their roleplayed history line. A large number of national and variant-rite churches exist. Some Catholic states belong to the Defenders of the Faith alliance. The Catholic faith as practiced in The Reich is not generally accepted as being within the Roman tradition.
