Royal Helghan Empire
The Royal Helghan Empire existed from 2076 to 2235 and at the height of its power was the most powerful nation in Alurus. The Empire was created in 2122 after a series of minor wars between tribes in the Helghan peninsula. Emperor James I was crowned in 2076 and through hismelf and his sons tripled the area of the empire. The empire reached its max size in 2146 and generally stood at that size until 2235.
The Royal Family was incredibly popular throughout the nation, with their strongest support in the East and West. The North housed a large number of Othodox Revisionists as opposed to the South's New Revisionism, which caused some problems but was generally kept under control by the police and through the goodwill of the Royal Family.
The geography of the region is very lush and temperate, except for the northern interior regions. The main center of commerce was the area around the bottom of the Helghan Peninsula.
History of the Fall
In 2226 the RHE began a long, drawn out war with a neighbouring country, Gier. After a few initial victories, the RHE army was held down at Elvenfist and the war degraded into a protacted ground campaign. After 3 years, in 2229, the RHE broke through enemies defenses and, under the demands of the current Emperor, Ryan III, quickly moved towards the coast and into the heart of the enemies homeland.
This move backfired completely as the Gier Army had most of its divisions unengaged farther inland and moved in around the RHE army and decimated their number in 27 days, now known across Alurus as the "month of blood". With the RHE army is tatters and the RHE homeland completely demoralized, the Gier army struck swiftly back into the heart of the RHE. The Royal Family was mostly killed, with a few escaping into neighbouring counties for asylum.
On July 22nd, 2230, Gier created the Central Helghan Government Authority (CHGA). They imposed a brutal, repressive police state on the Helghan people for 3 years. At the peak of the "occupation", Gier housed over 800,000 troops in the RHE. Tensions were great during this time. The Northern peoples were especially brutalized, as the Gierans were New Revisionist also and despised the Orthodox Revisionists in their country also.
The occupation did not last as long as anyone expected. In the fall of 2233, Gier swiftly began removing their troops and the rest of their presence from the RHE as a new war began with the Pegasus Consortium. Be the end of 2233, Gier's occupation forces had dwindled to less than 30,000. By this time, the Gier government had given up on trying to keep a hold on the RHE and removed its last troops to riots and civil war.
The ensuing power vacuum brought on what are know known as the Reunification Wars. Rex, a nephew of the former Royal Family, began from a power base in the East in an attempt to reunite the RHE. He consolidated a large portion of present-day South Helghast and nearly all of West Helghast. Unfourtnately, the Northern peoples were not interested in being involved (after seeing how they could be treated) and fought a series of bloody conflicts along the Juniper River.
As Rex attempted to consolidate the rest of his fledgling nation, he met resistance from both the South, in the form of local warlords and corporations, and from the tip of the Helghan peninsula in the form of Arcturus. Arcturus had returned from Asylum as a half-brother to the former Prince of the RHE. Rex had become more and more violent and uncontrollable and his socialist policies did not bode well with the conservative Westerners. Arcturus and his armies fought back towards the present day borders. As Rex knew he would have difficulty from both the North and the West, he focused his attention on the South, which was the weakest of the four.
Arcturus wanted to keep the 3 fronts against Rex open and so openly supported the Souths attempts to defend the East's onslaught. Arcturus also supported uprisings in a few of the East's major coastal cities, turning them to ally with the south. After making limited gains, Rex had nearly lost all his coastline and was forced to move onto the defensive. By 2235, a ceasefire had been reached between the 4 states.
After this point, Arcturus attempted to gain more political power in the South in an attempt to strengthen his hand against Rex. This ultimately backfired as the southerners removed his troops from their support positions and declared their makeshift alliance null and void. At the same time, a splinter group of Helgans broke off of southern helghast to form "south helghast", mainly to confuse people.
