Sariais is a small island protectorate off the southern coast of Crisconium. It was awarded to Crisconium by the Treaty of Rampagia in 1443, but was later restored to a self-ruled democratic government, a result of the island's history. Crisconium claims Sariais as a protectorate territory; a status which is ill-defined and has led to significant discussion in the international community. It is a member of the United NationStates, strengthening the island's argument of complete sovereignty. It often serves as Crisconium's unofficial link to the UN.

Sariais was home to the first democratically-elected government in Eurasia Magnus; first elected in 1292. After the Tripariate War, Greater Eurasistan campaigned for the unification of Sariais and its neighbouring island-nation Plunis, and this proposal was expanded by the unification of both with the new nation of Crisconium

In 1523, after Plunisian merchant ships continuously raided Sariaisian trading vessels, Sariais declared an economic blockade against Plunis. Crisconium, who considered both islands part of its territory and under its control, sent part of its fleet to deal with Sariais. After the under-manned Sariaisian fleet defeated the Crisconian fleet, Crisconium declared Sariais in a state of rebellion, and began launching amphibious raids on the mainland. Wendellia sent volunteers to the island to fight in a proxy war; hoping to gain control over Sariais, and by default, Plunis as well. Guerrila-style warfare raged for three years, resulting in over 175,000 deaths, before Crisconian troops seized the Sariaisian capital, and ordered Wendellian citizens off the island. This resulted in the short-lived Bengal Islands Affair, where Crisconium and Wendellia nearly declared war on each other. The Sariaisian government-in-exile retreated to Wendellia, and existed for about three months before the Wendellian government recognised Crisconium's control over the two islands. Sariais was subsequently placed once again under military control, and this dispute is one of the reasons leading to Crisconium intervention in the proposed expansion of the Sariaisian navy in 1664.

Crisconian military rule lasted until 1545, when, after widespread demonstrations, Crisconium agreed to allow self-rule for Sariais and Plunis. 54 years later, under the Treaty of Bluegunsburg, Sariais was granted the problematic status of a protectorate territory. Crisconium still retains nominal control over the external affairs of Sariais.

Sariais is a member of the United NationStates, and due to the nature of its existance with Crisconium, often serves as that nation's link to the UNS. Crisconium, a member nation until only a few years ago, recently left the organization, denouncing it as a "dirty, savage, Commie lefty pinko regime that's sole intent is to pull us into the arms of Hell itself."
