In the months following the disentegration of the Soviet Union, strife entered the former socialist republics, tearing apart the bonds which once held strong. The two neighboring republics of Georgia and Armenia soon entered the forefront of the squabbles that arose. Border disputes, slander, and resources led to an all-out war between the two similar states resulting in a war which forced UN and NATO invervention. The conflict was so destabilizing that the Commonwealth of Independent States [the newly created group of former Soviet republics] deployed military forces to counter-act the Western intervention. This led to a conflict of ideals, a meshing of cultures, and what would lead to an unstable region. The situation would evolve until a seperatist government faction rebelled and led the way to a new state, the United States of the Soviet Bloc [USSB], reuniting three seperate states to form a tight-knit group a-la the United States of America. The government would not last before internal strife dissolved the USSB's government, this is where the young and fiery Boris Chlevenkov became immortalized: his heroic charge with two hundred civilians behind him to actually take over the hugely symbolic and newly erected capitol building in Tasji. A photograph by an American journalist captured the soldier's charge up the stone stairway, framed by the confused USSB soldiers and the rotten, destroyed city which surrounded this beacon of hope. The photograph would rally the rest of the nation into war.

With war once again raging, and looking to be as bloody as ever, CIS and NATO forces withdrew, citing 'dangerous conditions' as the official reason. Each force withdrew to friendly territory: NATO to Turkey and the CIS forces back across the Caucusus threshold, and began to observe the actions which unfolded...

With attacks on government positions every hour across the nation, it was apparant the new government would capitulate ''at any minute''. It occurred at 11:53 AM October 1st, 1992, when Boris Chelevenkov announced that President Vladimr Ulyanov had been assassinated and the Parliament voted to dissolve itself amid armed confrontation with rebels who had gained access to the building. The Parliament confirmed this in a television broadcast.

Boris Chlevenkov quickly gained control with an iron fist, immediately bringing the country under his control and offering a vast amount of assistance to the military, which had faced terrible losses to the American-equipped and trained rebellion. The military agreed and quickly fell under Chlevenkov's command. Realizing he was surrounded by potential enemies, especially a potentially resentful and revengeful mother nation to the north, Chlevenkov believed a powerful military was a required asset for the nation. That notion has never left the political arena, and the Armed Republic will always have one of the premiere fighting forces on the planet. He quickly deployed newly organized military forces to garrison the northern border with Russia, leaving few forces to protect the other borders. This was poor planning on Chlevenkov's part as the CIS forces were counter-balanced by a NATO force in Turkey which kept a watchful eye on the newly developing nation as it poured money into Chlevenkov's regime, hoping for a friendly, democratic nation. The real enemy was to the east. Azerbaijan looked to the west for expansion and saw it, a nation just recovering from a terrible war with most of its military parked near the Caucusus.

On December 17th, 1992, Azerbaijan launched a lightning attack which pulsed through the Armed Republic, facing little to no resistance. The next day, NATO responded by launching immediate bombing runs against Azerbaijani tank columns and forward posts as the ARSB responded, quickly swinging forces down to flank the advancing forces. Following intense pleading by Chlevenkov, NATO agreed to deploy armored and airborne forces to halt the attack. Azerbaijani T-55s, T-62s and T-72s were no match for the Abrams, Leopard, and Challenger equipped NATO forces which quickly wiped away most of Azerbaijan's war-fighting capabilities. The war ended in two weeks with an utter devastation of the Azerbaijani military, and immediately brought back memories of the Israeli wars for survival. NATO forces, fearing CIS intervention and potential hostilities with Russia quickly abandoned their posts and once again pulled back to Turkey, leaving the ARSB recovering from a brief but intense war...

Two weeks later, on January 23rd, 1993, the Armed Republic invaded Azerbaijan in retribution and for territorial expansion to accomodate its growing population and resource requirements. The war was a stunning success for the Armed Republic, as their relatively light forces pounded through the survivors of the NATO-Azerbaijan war just weeks earlier. In six days, a light infantry group had succeeded in capturing the Azerbaijani capitol while the rest of the force swept through Azerbaijan. The next day the Azerbaijani government capitulated and surrendered to the Armed Republic. Its military was, by now, non-existant, and the annexation was seamless.

However, the initial relief and peace felt after the annexation lasted but mere days before Russian heavy armor divisions swept through the Armed Republic capital. Russian and CIS forces had destroyed and disrupted communications and not a soul in the Armed Republic knew that for days before the Azerbaijan invasion that Russian and Soviet Bloc soldiers had been fighting in the trans-Cuacusus region. Nobody knew until a heavy armored division stormed through Tasji in what would later be referred to as a 'thunder run'. Chlevenkov was promptly evacuated from the capitol as the nation fell into a war that would encompass all of Southeast Europe, Russia, and Southwest Asia. NATO forces were the first to act, caught off-guard by the Russian intrusion, and quickly deployed across friendly Ukraine, pushing through Russian initial defenses and snapping Russian logistical lines as they began moving in behind the Russian offensive forces. Armed Republic forces were no match for the heavy divisions of the CIS, and was pushed back repeatedly until they were at the borders of Iran, even pushed across the border. In a rallying call, the infamous 121st Armored Brigade recalled a certain poem and promptly proclaimed "Never shall we die forgotten on the plains of a foreign land! If we are to perish at all, it shall be upon our own soil! Advance, for our home lies just upon the next hill!" The quote would be immortalized as the turning point of the entire war.

From this point forward, a continuous advance led from the fringe of the Iranian border across and through the Armed Republic, all the way to the Volga River in Russia. NATO forces threatened total war if Russia didn't surrender. Russia grudgingly agreed with the Treaty of Moscow on June 11th 1995, and pulled back its forces past a line that ran from the Volga river across to the Ukraine. NATO forces remained for several months before international pressures, including war in the Balkans, forced their withdrawal.

With NATO's departure, the Armed Republic was left to fend for itself, straddled by three opponents: Russia, Turkey, and Iran. All of which gazed at the Armed Republic with nothing but contempt. However, with training and equipment direct from NATO and the United States, the Armed Republic had a military that could more than match that of at least Iran's and Turkey's. Russia was another matter as they looked to the south with revenge on their minds. In May of 1996, Russia began blanketing the region with electronic warfare, but to no avail against the hardened electronics and communications from which the Armed Republic procured from the West. Believing that they had shut down Armed Republic communications, Russian mechanized and armored divisions swept across their plains and straight into a prepared Armed Republic defense. The battle ended with a victorious Armed Republic claiming the war prizes of several dozens of abandoned tanks and equipment. The Russians had slammed into the defense with such speed and vigor that they completely shattered, especially against an informed enemy, and quickly lost momentum. Over eight thousand Russian soldiers were captured, after psychological evalutation, four thousand were offered military positions in the Armed Republic. They promptly agreed, the rest were held until Russia finally released several hundred captured ARSB soldiers, officers, and nationals.

That battle was the beginning of the end for Russia. Within a year their government had dissolved and been replaced with a Communist state that quickly sought to mend relations with its southern off-spring. In fact, the new nation, the United Socialist States of Communist Rule, agreed to sell the entirety of Kazakhstan as well as a connecting land piece to the Armed Republic, which quickly agreed.

It was during this time, as the Armed Republic grip on the former Russian trans-caucusus region held strong that the decision was made to move the capital to Rostov. It was also agreed to completely reform the Armed Republic into districts, with District I being home to the capital of Rostov.

Yet, before any grand changes could be made, Turkish naval vessels launched a surprise attack on coastal installations, quickly followed by bombardment of Armed Republic defensive positions along the Turkish border. Turkish infantry forces, supported by NATO-funded tanks quickly moved against the ARSB defenses, advancing a dozen miles into the Armed Republic before facing a stiff response. Quickly, Navy vessels engaged and pushed back the Turkish fleet, as one of two amphibious invasion fleets quickly poised themselves for an amphibious invasion of the northeast quarter of Turkey. The invasion came as a complete surprise to the Turkish, who had underestimated the reforms which coursed through the ARSB's military as it emerged from various wars. The amphibious invasion left nine thousand Soviet Bloc marines on Turkey's shore supported by heavy armor elements. They quickly moved through the soft underbelly of the Turkish advance and cut off the advancing Turkish forces from all logistics. Airborne forces dropped in Turkey as entire Army divisions were off-loaded onto her shores. Within weeks, the entire north-eastern quarter of Turkey was in firm Soviet Bloc hands. In a month, the Turkish forces still within the Armed Republic would surrender and the war would end.
