The Capital in Brief

Stevid Capita is the capital city of the nation of Stevid. The Capital City has along and distinguished history throughout the whole founding of Stevid and it’s history. The nation’s city has been it’s capital since the founding, the city name seems rather bland but at least it stands out among all cities that that particular city is the centre of Stevid. Stevid Capita obviously holds the main infrastructure of the nation’s politics since it is the capital city. The Prime Minister’s political house and Office is contained within the city’s boarders and the Stevid House of Commons and Lords are also present in the Capital. It is also in Stevid Capital were the Royal Palace is located. Kallesbury Palace is the home of the Royal Family itself, but it’s mainly home to the King, Queen and the youngest child inline to the throne. The Palace is a huge structure of modern architect from the 1850’s to the present day. The flag of the royal family constantly flies, rain or shine, war or peace, death or life. The security of the Palace is always tight and tense. The Palace Guards are armed with some of the best equipment and armoured support Stevid can offer. No one knows the full extent of the security forces as this could compromise the security around the Palace and the surrounding area.

Transportation Networks

Stevid Capita boasts the transportation systems around the city and outside it’s divine boarders. The Stevid Capita tube network work is made up of a complex network of interconnecting rails and stations that make up the tube system in Stevid. The above ground Transportation is just as similar. The government provides the state capital of Stevid with a massive network of buses that operate around the clock around the city all day, everyday. The buses run at frequent times of around ten minute intervals between stops all around the city- unlike the tube network, the buses are prone to delays as well as accidents. It shows that even a well-established city such as Stevid Capita still suffers the same mass transit difficulties as any other city in the developed world.

City Defences and Contingency Plans

The city is the capital of the whole state, in knowing the possibility of potential dangers that threaten the city it is necessary to keep defences high on the agenda both for public safety and the pride of the country. The well-trained Police force is one present in one of three cities that carry guns all the time. In other words, Stevid Capita is one of three cities that have a police force that always carry guns, every other force in the country doesn’t carry guns as standard issue (apart from armed response). But Stevid Capita’s police force is almost militaristic in it’s organisation. They all carry guns, in the events of public protests they use riot vans and APC tanks to transport officers and maintain order on the streets. Around potential terrorist hot spots that may be venerable to attack, police check points involving pillboxes and barriers are used to magnetically scan passing vehicles for weaponry. In the event of a terrorist attack, the police have special powers that allow them to kill anyone who may be a suspect terrorist and also enable them to take direct order on the streets the contain and monitor traffic control. The other emergency services deal with the immediate problem.

Contingency Plans

Contingency plans within the capital are strict and usually rehearsed down to the letter written down on the drafted contingency plans. In the event of a chemical, nuclear, or biologically attack on the city, either by terrorists or a foreign power, the police, fire brigade and NHS will immediately kick into gear and set up quarantine facilities around “clean” areas of the city in an attempt to halt contagion in the city and regain control of a panicking population. Biological detection and prevention units are deployed straight into the effected areas of the explosion/breakout and attempt to filter out the virus or cordon off areas (in the event of a nuclear explosion or dirty bomb). The best response times are usually beaten in record time and the emergency services treat the calls for either practise or real calls as REAL ones, even if they know it were not a real explosion within the city. This gives the city an extremely good chance of intercepting viruses and locking down areas of the city quickly and effectively.

City Defence Forces

The City itself is the nerve centre of the country and has to be appropriately defended by the army and air force. RAF Baxter is the local airfield and provides the general air cover for the city. The City itself is it’s own constituency in it’s own right in parliament and the constituency itself stretches six miles outside of the “city” borders itself. The constituency is the only one in Stevid that is surround by a two hundred and sixty-foot reinforced concerete and hardened steel perimeter wall. The wall is lined with pillboxes and AA emplacements varying from guns to missiles. The ring of defence lines the boarders of the consistency and was not a parliamentary idea. The wall was constructed during the period of Stevid when it was ruled by a dictatorship that was pro-military and concerned about home defence. The new democratic government decided to leave the wall erect just in case.

The main entrances into the city through the wall are on the motorways leading into the constituency and main roads at various checkpoints. If in the direst of needs the city needs to be isolated, huge metal doors meters thick rise up and act as huge gates to prevent anything on the ground getting in. The anti-air and anti-ballistic missile grids are also turned onto maximum effect. The city then becomes in closed and the army man the ramparts. The government never intend to use it unless absolutely necessary.

The city holds it’s own army including tanks with ablative armour, troops with more than standard issue equipment and other weapons undisclosed to the world on a rather large scale. The army only becomes operational if the city is under direct threat and if that occurs, the army then takes over from the constituency’s constabulary.
