The Democratic Republic of Terra Arcadia is a huge, devout nation, renowned for its punitive income tax rates. Its hard-working, intelligent population of 390 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 100%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing.

'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Terra Arcadia's radio stations, polygamy is legal, euthanasia is illegal, and the nation is ravaged by daily union strikes. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Terra Arcadia's national animal is the Giant Ennemy Crab, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Arcadian Dollar.
