The Community of the Frozen Chosen

Though a nation of over 100 million citizens, this nation still maintains the distinctive character of a small intimate community. In fact, some 72% of the Chosen still live in small jungle villages, each boasting an approximate population of 530 and a unique local government. These localities have historically controlled most of the soverign decisionmaking, but now policies have been becoming more centralized. This shift has been accompanied by the rapid growth of The Community's de facto capital, Waltora. The only urban center in the nation, it is fast becoming an icon of progress and modern technology. There is still some resistance to centralization; in fact some villages refuse to acknowledge the existence of Waltora as anything more than a governemtn headquarters. Still, the younger generations have been quicker to accept the new role of Waltora as a central national hub. Waltora is viewed as fulfilling the needs of most efficiently organizing national government and coordinating international diplomacy and trade.

Demographics

  • Gender: 46% female, 42.5% male, 11% androgenous, 0.5% Other*

Mostly the result of cloning and cross-species breeding experiments in the village of Silverthorn. All deemed sentient by a government-approved battery of intelligence tests are considered citizens under the law, with all the rights of homo sapiens living in The Community.

  • Racial/Ethnic: statistics unavailable due to policy prohibiting requesting said information

It is important to note, however, that an estimated 97.4% of native Chosen possess telepathic powers. This has allowed for the perpetuation of a nation without any need for domestic centralization. It is believed that at least 85% of citizens in The Community, though only 37% of Waltora, are native, telepathic Chosen.

  • Religion: 86% monotheistic, 6.1% atheistic, 2.9% polytheistic, 5% chose not to respond

More specific information unavailabe due to the lack of hierarhcal religion. Faith is considered a personal issue. Like-minded indivduals do occasionally gather to worship/discuss/etc but views are generally so disperse that no official religions or denominations are known to exist.

  • Technology: 83% own a TV, 100% own a computer, 97.4% have internet access, 91.2% have a cell phone

Business & Technology

The Community's fair economy is lead by the Publishing Industry. Books are almost exclusively sold through the export market, since the telepathic majority, aidied by the contruction of an central databank codenamed "Atlantis" in Waltora, have little need for printed materials. This database is currently able to communicate telepathically with citizens, as well as corporate systems, and keep record of all publically important thought, though only with the express permission of the original source brain. While "Atlantis", which is commonly misconstrued as an artificial intelligence, can interact with all individuals, participation in this information sharing is purely voluntary.

The Frozen Chosen have also been pioneers of energy research. Scientist are currently working to refine the dung of various native fauna, which has been the prime source of energy for many villages for centuries, to generate energy in a form more compatible with international standards while maintianing the environmental benefits of recycling dung.
