The Doc Wearing Devil of The GM Warden is a massive, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 3.449 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, pro-business government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Religion & Spirituality. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 29%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Gambling industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Door-to-door Insurance Sales.
A study has shown that many parents are too embarrassed to teach their children sex education, only the rich can afford the latest medical innovations, protests are prohibited from blocking traffic, and the government is avowedly atheist. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is well under control, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. The GM Warden's national animal is the griffin, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the empiricon.
