Contents"The Capital of Africa"Though conquered by many people's, the city of Carthage has risen once again to prominence throughout the world. Starting out as a Phoenician trading colony, it has risen and fallen throughout the years. Now it is a vast Empire, ranging from its capital of Carthage to the jungles of Bengal, one of the great powers on the Mediterranean sea, and the Dominant Power of South Asia. It has participated in many alliances, from the South East Asia Treaty Organisation to the Roman Confederacy, and has waged many wars to reach were it is today. It has taken thousands of years and an un-breakable spirit, but finally Carthage has been restored to it's former glory: and beyond. GovernmentAfter the Emperor Hannibal VII abdicated his thrown, Steve Hargin became Prime Minister in the National Elections. For 30 years, it was ruled by Democratic parties until the Technocrat's came to power. Recently, after Makkah and Medinah joined the Empire, the name was switched once again to the Carthaginian TechnoCaliphate of The Lightning Star. While Caliph Mahmoud Al-Zimmar was the undisputed leader for 2 months, he quickly began cracking down on the Technocrat's, which sparked the Technocrat-Caliph War. After 3 months of brutal fighting, the war ended and a new Caliph was instated, Caliph Rakshi. This war caused the government to be separated into 4 factions. The Technocrats(with their Capital at Hannibalia), the Grand Duchy of Carthage(capital at Neo-Carthage), the Caliphate(the capital at Medinah), and the Sufette(which is basically the senate, capital New Delhi). This system was horribly inefficent, and after 8 years of an uneasy stability war broke out. The Grand-Duchy and the Caliphate merged into the Republic, and a new faction emerged, the Imperialists. The Technocrats allied with the Imperialists to wipe the Republic off of the map of Africa, and to wipe out the Caliphate. The Technate and the Imperialists merged into one faction; the Technocratic Empire, while the Caliphate (after the obliteration of Makkah, with the majority of it's armed forces and all of it's leadership with it) joined the Republic. SubdivionsCarthage is vast, and to manage all these parts they must be divided and divided again. While they are all diverse in culture, language, and beyond; they all share the fact that they all have been battlegrounds against the many enemies of the state. The Regions of The Lightning StarThe Lightning Star can be divided into 16 regions(see below). Each region is divided into states, and those are divided into counties (although we won't go into those). The capitals of each region are:

Republics of The Lightning StarThe Lightning Star, being the giant Empire that it is, has quite a few Republics. While they used to be colonies, the government decided it would be easier if they were to become republics within the empire. They are all(except for Hannibalia and the Falklands) situated in the Indian Ocean, seeing how although Carthage itself isn't based there, much of the nation is. The colonies are:

EconomyThe Lightning Star is a giant in the economic world. It has industries in every region, ranging from mining to car-manufacturing to software development. One of it's largest, and most famous, industries would have to be the Arms Industry. The Lightning Star has developed some of the worlds most advanced weapons. It also manufactures it's signature weapon, the AK-Z, in the millions, creating much revenue. There is a large agricultural sector as well, with most of the farms situated along the Ganges River in India and the Indus in Kashmir and Pakistan. DemographicsAlthough English and Arabic are the languages that are used in daily life and in running the country, Latika is a distinct language and an important part of Lightning Starian culture. Invented by trader's that scurried between the colonies, Latika is a language that is quick and simple to use, thus creating a language for all people's of the Empire to learn in about a month so that they can chat with people who normally speak another language. There are many ethnic groups in The Lightning Star, and although there aren't any major clashes, a few fights spring up here and there. The people generally welcome different cultures, although they don't get too close to an outsider. Other languages used in the nation are the ancient language of Punic, spoken by the people of Greater Carthage, Numidia, and western Sicily(although it is only used as a business language in rural areas, most everyone in the area was raised speaking it), and the Indian languages of Urdu,Hindi,Bangla, Sinhala, Nepalese, and Dzongkha. These languages are mostly only used in the Indian Sub-continent, but you will also hear them in western Carthage, especially in immigrant communities in Medinah, Neo-Carthage, Hannibalia, Zarzis, and Algiers. Tajik and Pashto are used in both Tajikistan and Carthaginian Afghanistan. Finally, the language of Sicilian is spoken all throughout Sicily, but it is mainly used in the east of the country. CultureThe cultue of The Lightning Star is a mix between that of the many states of south asia as well as that of Carthage. In the streets of any city you can find Indian snake-charmer's, Rajasthani Camel Rider's, Numidian Camel Riders, Bengali Princes, Punjabi Buisnessmen, Carthaginian Trader's,and much more. The Main religion of The Lightning Star is, by far, Islam. Islam, as stated before, played a key role in making the nation what it is today, and thus influences daily life. More than 1,800,000,000 citizens are muslim, with 600,000,000 hindus, 100,000,000 christians, and 30,000,000 Zoroastrians. The Offical law of the state is a mix of the Qu'ran and of the Carthaginian Constitution. |
