The Infinite Star Empire of The Mindset is an expansive union of six systems, comprising four partially colonised farming worlds, one long-range sensor outpost and the heavily defended capital world of Midna Beta. The Empire is currently suferring the tyranic rule of Prime Nurik Dancos, who stole power from his father six years previous. The economy is slowing, and anarchy is beginning to grip as funds are shunted from more and more public industries to fund an expansive military upgrade.

The Empire was founded approximately two-thousand five-hundred years previous, and it is currently one of the major political powers of space. Initially a small political party in socialist Scotland, the movement known as The Mindset grew swiftly and advanced technologically in a very small space of time.

Brief History

Early Years

The Empire was founded by the Scottish political hero Brett Dorrans in the year 2007AD. It was originally a political party who opposed the Socialist Party controlling Scotland at that time. After Brett was arrested for a framed murder, the "Mind Party" (which later became known as "The Mindset") took up arms and began a guerilla campaign of liberation against the opressive Socialist government. Several years of bloody warfare passed, in which the streets of major Scottish cities were bathed in innocent blood. After three years, the majority of northern Scotland was under Mindsettian control. The Mindset established her capital in the small Scottish island of Orkney, and declared the nation of The Mindset sovereign. It was at this point the independant Scottish government appealed to the English for military aid. Several months of aerial bombardment ensued, in which several hundred civilians died. It was at this time The Mindset assumed control of an American-built nuclear missile in an ex-Unified Britain missile silo. A fourteen kiloton bomb was dropped on London, and England swiftly withdrew support. Southern Scotland quickly fell to the great armies of The Mindset.

Golden Ages

Many years of peace followed, in which rapid advances in technology were made. In the year 2019AD a hostile invading force naming themselves "Gandalf's Army" landed and fortified themselves in the lowlands of Mindsettian territory. They were quickly taken out by a coalition of several nations, including The Mindset, The Sean Empire, and Omz222. Only a few months later, The Mindset learned of a frightening increase in nuclear weapon usage by several nations, including the nation of Allanea, who was producing ICBMs at a rate which terrified the government. Several trillion dollars were poured into a vast underground network of nuclear bunkers and anti-radiation drugs and gene therapy.

To Boldly Go

It was at this time of great stress that the government decided space was the only answer. We had watched bold nations send their children in cold chryoships into the depths of space, and we began contructing our own, naming it Omanzee. She carried five hundred million Mindsettians. Contact was lost after only one year, and the mission was deemed a failure.

However, this did not stop the Mindsettian expansion into space. In 2038AD a scientist named Dr. Blade Hungary discovered that if you applied a certain amount of gravatic "pressure" to naturally occuring gravational weakpoints around massive objects (such as stars), space folds and allows matter to be transmitted through space at many times the speed of c. The government quickly seized this oppertunity as a way to escape the crowding of Earth, and a fleet of huge transport ships was contructed over fifty years. With the help of several other nations, The Mindset launched three transport ships named M-1, M-2 and M-3. They successfully transported the majority of the population to the system of Midna Solaris, leaving behind a small force on the island of Orkney, and a research base under the Antarctic.

A hundred years of prosperity ensured, in which the population and economic power of The Mindset grew exponentially. We began mapping the galaxy, and sold our findings to the nations we encountered while doing so. In order to try to find a more reliable method of FTL, which didn't require massive bodies, we began extensively researching gravatics. This proved to be a near fatal mistake. A small Mindsettian research station orbiting close to the star of Midna Solaris caused a chain reaction inside the core which instantly stopped the fusion reaction and caused the star to collapse. The energy generated by the superheated atoms of hydrogen smashing together reignited a fusion reaction on an exponential scale, and the star promptly went supernova. It was only with the help of another nations small fleet of FTL trader vessels were the cityships able to escape down a wormhole to the system of Midna Beta, the current capital of the Empire.

Current Turmoil

The Empire then entered its imperial age, where we annexed and conquered fifteen neighbouring systems under the leadership of Prime Sadic Frar. Under her leadership, The Mindset achieved a brief moment of fame as a space superpower. However, the following Prime, Pr'Varia Dancos, was a pacifist. He reformed The Empire, dissolved the fleets, and granted independance to most annexed worlds. The Empire currently spans six solar systems, four of which are farming worlds providing food for the cityships of Midna Beta, the other a long range sensor outpost.

Religion

Law

Religion, in all forms, has been outlawed since 2066AD. Those caught practising or preaching within Mindsettian space, regardless of the religion or of nationality, are executed as per orders of the Prime. The law was briefly overturned by the Senate in 3114AD, after a law was granted by the Prime of that time allowing the Senate a say in national matters. The Prime overuled the Senate in this instance, and stripped all but local powers from the institution. The Senate and the current Prime have rarely got along since.

Opinion

The majority of Mindsettian citizens (be they living within Mindsettian space or not) are indifferent to religion. They do not mind those who preach outside Mindsettian space, however, they will readily accept the 60,000CC reward for reporting violators of the law. They do not take kindly to having religion "rammed down their throats." Most Mindsettians identify as either officially Atheist or Humanist.

Economy

Overview

The economy of The Empire is generally highly advanced. It is currently one of the larger (though by no the means largest) economies currently active in space. However, it has been long plagued by a sizable trade deficit caused by much higher levels of internal trade than external. Exports generally consist of hydrogen, advanced alloys and technology. Imports are generally raw materials, food and technology. The currency is fairly strong, and exports tend to make healthy profits in foreign markets, where Mindsettian technology is seen as "unique" and valuable.

The internal market is not taxed, and is highly diverse. Major corporations help fund the defense of The Empire in pittance for a highly free market economy. The primary contractor for the Mindsettian Navy is the MUAND Corporation. Corruption is generally fairly low, though the lack of laws governing the growth of companies results in low levels of sucessful business startups. Approximately 95% of all products consumed within the Empire are produced by three major corporations.

Primary Sector

Four of the colonised planets of The Empire are primarily farming worlds, serving the massive Mindsettian Cityships of Midna Beta, which have no means of producing their own food products. Therefore, the Agricultural industry of The Mindset is highly important. Exports of food are not permitted by law, since it is such an important part of Mindsettian civilisation. Despite the level of importance of the farming worlds, they are very lightly defended, with only a few ships patrolling the space around them.

Secondary Sector

The majority of the secondary sector is internal. Very little secondary products are exported, since the economy of The Mindset is highly internal-orientated. This has resulted in fairly sizable (though controllable) inflation over the centuries, though what is exported makes a healthy profit for the economy as a whole.
