Europa is a moon of the planet Jupiter. It is completely covered with a layer of ice, and then a deep ocean. There are no landmasses at all on the moon. Europa is also a spin-off region of Mars (MTO).

History

Europa was first settled by a quick little commercialy developed ship called the Leif Ericson (sound familiar? It was also Gusev Crater's first ship on Mars (MTO)). A small colony was dropped off, and the ship scooted away to do other things. This little colony happened to stumble apon a string of mysteries that eventualy atracted more corperate bussiness than you can shake a dollar at. These are described in the science section, below.

On earth, a bunch of bussinesmen realized how profitable the moon could be. "Hmm... This place has water (which can be converted into fuel), uranium, and glowing fish. We could make a fortune." But they didn't. Hoards of colonys came, seeking the wealth of Europa, and the moon became a very busy place. But eventualy it became apparent that only terrorists would want/ need this much uranium, and glowing fish could be produced for much cheaper on earth. That and the fact that most of the colonys were completely unprepared for life on such a desolate place, made them leave. Every single one of them, except the Gusevians, who stayed and sold fuel. During the time they were there, though, these nations made many good acomplishments, such as developing a model regional government, building massive factories for water - fuel conversion, and many scientific discoveries. The sudden loss of all these colonies is mostly considered a sad thing, as the moon looked very promising.

Many many years later, some nations of the Mars Treaty Organisation became interested in re-settling the moon. Since then colonies have been slowly coming in, for various reasons, and work is being done to re-establish the government.

Europa Timeline

  • 2030: The fist colony ship, Leif Ericson, established a settlement on Europa.
  • 2032: Corperate interest is sparked in the moon, and many companies/ random people make settlements. This includes the nations of TI-34, Sesquipedalianism, rum-drinking idiots, Olbania, Evil commie monkeys, Drunken Immigrants, Crussia, bebop1411, Secor Y, and Auruelle.
  • 2033: The regional commitee is formed, under the constitution of the Moon of Europa.
  • 2035: Political trouble arises among the nations. TI-34 illegaly establishes a colony, using false permission from Secotr Y. Other nations begin to become quarrelsome and offensive.
  • 2040: The political problems reach their highest as the committe is abruptly disbanded. Many nations also decide to leave because Europa was either to harsh of an envirnment or not turning a profit. Some nations stay, but they slowly die off.
  • 2045: The last of the ghost nations dies, leaving only Gusev Crater's colony, officialy named Europa 01 .
  • 2082: The Alutians, a member nation of the Mars Treaty Organisation, develop an interest in Europa and start a collony for research and experimentation perposes.

Government

In its time, the old government was fairly impressive. A commitee of nations was given full Legislative, Executive, Representative, and Judicial control of the entire region. This is a copy of the Constitution of the Moon of Europa:

The regional constitution of the moon of Europa

This document nations that all nations of the moon of Europa are allied and united for the purpose of providing aid & support to each other, and to handle regional affairs. As of the approval of all nations in the region, this document shall be ratified and a the propositions stated here shall become regional law. Any nation colonizing Europa in the future automatically agree to this document and are subject to the judgment of the regional committee of nations.

1st, the region will become password protected. The password will be given to all regional members at the time of the ratification of this document. If at any time the committee feels it is appropriate to change the password, they are permitted to do so. 2 methods of entering the region shall be adopted. The first is by invitation (see below), and the second by request (also see below).

2nd, the nations of the region shall be managed and mediated by a regional committee of nations. This committee will be formed with the goal of uniting the nations, mediating and regulating affairs between the nations, handling affairs with party's outside the region, and making region-wide decisions. The committee will be composed of the following members. The member nations will be decided by nomination and voting, and any member can be impeached with a majority vote of the rest of the committee. Any committee decision could be revoked, changed, or created by a majority petition of the nations. The committee also has the authority to add to, change, or render void this document.

Regional UN Delegate - The representative of the Moon of Europa to the UN. The UN Delegate will vote on UN resolutions, and approve propositions, representing the region. The final decision will be made by the Delegate based on ideas of the other people on the committee.

Chief of Admission - They will select qualified nations for entry (based on a set of criteria), hand out invitations to join the region, and accept or deny requests. If an invitation is accepted by the recipient, they have the authority to give the regional password. And if they accept a request for entry, they have the authority to give the regional password.

Chief of External relations - In charge of forming alliances with other regions and settling interregional disputes

Regional Treasurer - Will create and manage the regional budget.

Chief of Trade - Coordinates trade within the region.

Voice of the People - Representatives of non-committee nations on the committee floor. There will be several of these in the committee, 1 for every 10 non-commitee nations, with a minimum of 1.

Chief of Environmental Affairs - Will represent the natural environment on the committee floor. Will also oversee any environmental programs.

Cheif of intelligence - Collects relevant information on other regions and nations (both internal and external). Responsible for "getting the dirt" on regional and outside happenings.

Cheif of Law & Order - Responsible for the prevention of crime. Also the Head of the regional police force. Acts as prosecution when regional criminal are being tried.

Regional Secondary - Fills in for any official who is unable to perform his duties.

The committee as a whole would be given several duties. The first would be to make decisions that affect the entire moon. Second is to judge nations that have committed a regional crime. And the last is to mediate both between nation inside and nations outside the region. Any committee decision could be revoked, changed, or created by a majority petition of the nations.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
A record of committee decisions will be kept below. Anything below this line can be added, edited, or deleted with the approval of the committee Everything above this line shall be considered "Engraved in stone" and cannot be changed except by describing the change below this line.

There are not committee decisions at this time.

Science

Europa had a variety of scientific mysteries/ discoveries; The first was this. After tunneling down to an incredibly deep, I don't know, 15 feet the colony confirmed that Europa has a layer of ice surrounding a vast ocean that covers the entire moon. When they got to the bottom, they found 3 things; earthquakes, volcanoes, and fish. The fish were a great discovery, because they were the first life forms found on another planet, and because they glow in the dark. The volcanoes and earthwuakes were unusual, though. Not even Mars was geologicaly active, how could this little moon have more energy in it's core than a big planet? And why weren't the earthquakes felt on the surface?

Well, the last question was quite simple. When you have a several thousand foot ocean between you and an earthquake, it acts like a giant shock absorber. The other question was a bit harder, though, and it took some time to figure out. Eventualy someone found that the earthquakes form when highly compressed pockets of matter, within the core, expand. But this, as most scientific things do, raised even more questions. What was causing explosions withing the core of a moon?

After another long bit of time, someone stuck a guiger counter down to the bottom of the ocean, where it promply broke from a radiation overload. Samples of the core revealed, of all things, Uranium. That explained the explosions, and also spurred yet more interest in Europa.

Now, there was one last mystery of Europa to be solved. And no one actualy tried to solve it, the fish did. When people tried to raise the fish in tanks, none of them lived. A lot of work was done to give them the right food and living conditions, but they just died. Finaly one was disected they found a very unusual organ, kind of like a liver, but differant. With a little more toying around, it was found that the fish ate nothing but dirt. And when dirt went in one end, uranium came out the other. This explained why the moon never ran out of uranium from its explosions. And thus, the wonders of Europa had all been discovered.
