The Southern Mountains or Na Cruacha Bán in Irish(meaning "The White Stacks") are a mountain range in the Southern Northland province of Sorthern Northland.The total area of the the range is around 127,867 km² spreading over much of Southland Northland province. The range is one of the top tourist attraction in the country, thanks to it 's breathtaking scenary and excellent snow conditions. Walkers and skiers viset the mountain's all year round. All ten of the countries highest mountains are found in the Southern Mountains, of which the highest is Snowspeak which stands at 4,758m. Beningrad the nations capital is at the foot of Snowspeak. The range is also famous for its many mountain lakes and rivers, both the Southern River and the River Oblast start in the Southern Mountains. The range was also the first part of Sorthern Northland to be granted National Park status.
