The city of Tyrins is one of the oldest cities in Akaeia. Although the ancient city of Taeana, then called Parsis, was founded a hundred or more years prior to Tyrins, the classical culture which dominated the ancient western seaboard of the continent originated at this city.

According to Sidersis mythology, the Blessed Mother Achanaea led some the survivors of the destruction of the mythical city of Psei'Danis to this location. Here they built a city, and named it Taer'inis, Psei'donite for Safe Haven. After several years the Psei'donite survivors had to leave the city for another location, further east, but the city was inhabited by locals under Achanaea's protection, and the city became known as Tyrins, a corruption of the original name into the classical tongue.
