The University of the Confederation is a public university located in New Amsterdam, the capital of the Confederated Peoples. It was originally created only to provide tertiary education to the people of the Confederal Sovereign Territory but it has since come to be seen as playing a special leadership role in Confederal tertiary education. It is the only university or other institute of tertiary education with a constitution and structure dictated by a Confederal statute. All other tertiary educational institutions are created either by a private party or parties or by a Member government. The University is governed by a 15 member council.

UC, although a recent creation, is already regarded as one of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the Confederated Peoples and the Western Atlantic. It is generally ranked as the fifth best Confederal university after the University of Civic Duty, the University of Civic Virtue, Howland University and Pierpont University. The University is also known as the most accessible because of its character as a public university. Tuition, room and board for Confederal citizens is extremely low and can be waived entirely if the student demonstrates they cannot afford it. Tuition for foreign students is substantially higher.
