Vetalian culture has been influenced by the nation's incredibly strong economic growth and liberal policies in regard to civil rights. Many of the poorer systems are shocked by what they percieve as the decadence and extravagance of the wealthy Vetalians, and on the more socially liberal planets "Vetalian" is used disparagingly to refer to any kind of profiglate or wasteful spending, particularly in regard to physical luxuries and pursuit of pleasure.
