Virsliga - Season 2

Played in 93 AS

Changes

Promotion/Relegation

As New Bhov became last in the previous season and relegated. They were replaced by the winner of the Superettan, New Salst-Gungen. The playoff had decided that Thobbidz were allowed to stay in the Virsliga.

Transfers

No major transfers were reported, but all teams extended their squad with new players from their region as the first season of the Virsliga had inspired many players, mainly youngsters, to start playing football.

First Half

Only a few matches into the season, it was already clear that Wolarr-Tsli and Kanzi, the two best teams of last season, were not having a good start. On matchday 6 they met and Kanzi ran away with the three points on the field of Wolarr-Tsli. Both teams were way out of the top 3 at that time however. At the halfway point, the teams that had finished season 1 in third, fourth and fifth position were occupying the podium, with Boudra-Boudra-City topping the table, just like they did at the halfway point in season 1. Newly promoted New Salst-Gungen occupied a nice fourth place while Zjam were in last place just behind title holders Wolarr-Tsli.

Second Half

Boudra-Boudra-City had the same trouble with the second half of the season as they did in season one as they dropped from 1st to 4th. In the opposite direction, Quelzar performed a stunning second half as they cruised from 8th to 3rd.

Just like the season one, the winner of the Virsliga was only known after all matches were played as Bakss was lying 2 points in front of Trojsno with only one match left. On the last matchday Bakss easily beat Boudra-Boudra-City at home while Trojsno did not get past Quelzar in a scoreless draw and thus were crowned new Virsliga champions!

Newly promoted New Salst-Gungen only scored 5 points in the second half of the season and dropped into 9th position, they were forced to play a playoff. Sjlipp, who finished in 7th position last season, dropped into the Superettan as their 3-0 victory over Kanzi on the last matchday did not prevent them from finishing in last position.

Awards

Player of the Year

Torsten Oppt-Sjlook - (Bakss)

After already having noticed his potential last year, Torsten was now unanimously chosen as the most important person in the Bakss squad as his control over the ball and vision guided his team to the title.

Other Nominees: Sosimo Bradkorb (Kanzi, Forward), Billy-Bob Stephenson (Quelzar, Defender)

Striker of the Year

Sosimo Bradkorb - (Kanzi)

For the second year in a row, Sosimo Bradkorb wins the Striker of the year award. Unfortunately for him though, his team let in a whole lot more goals and only finished in 6th position.

Other Nominees: Mikko Piminio (Bakss), Arintz Efefefe-Ijlf (Boudra-Boudra-City)

Midfielder of the Year

Torsten Oppt-Sjlook - (Bakss)

Positioning, Control, Vision, Pace. Alltogether in the form of Torsten Oppt-Sjlook, no real contenders for the title here.

Other Nominees: Rikke Galuccio (Kanzi), Njjik Rahlii (Trojsno)

Defender of the Year

Billy-Bob Stephenson - (Quelzar)

Chosen in front of his teammate Burns, Billy-Bob Stephenson declared this trophy was dedicated to his team as they performed superbly together, letting in only 17 goals.

Other Nominees: Indridi-Ptô Burns (Quelzar), Samuel-Fred Van Overstraeten (Bakss)

Goalkeeper of the Year

Ohène Strok'pah - (Boudra-Boudra-City)

Ohène performed outstanding again, winning the trophy for two seasons in a row.

Other Nominees: Petr Fhinkzc (Quelzar), Flip Vandecasteele (Wolarr-Tsli)

Goal of the Season

Arintz Efefefe-Ijlf - (Boudra-Boudra-City) (Boudra-Boudra-City 1-2 Kanzi, Matchday 12)

Kanzi are having a corner, with almost all their players trying to head the ball into the net, but the ball falls to the feet of Arintz as he sprints the whole length of the pitch, being faster with the ball than all his Kanzi chasers without. Meanwhile he also dribbles the two Kanzi players left defending. As he runs straight towards the keeper he fakes to go left, which makes the Kanzi goalkeeper dive early to allow Arintz to run past him on the other side, netting the ball easily. Unlucky for Arintz, his team loses 1-2.
