The United Socialist States of Whittier

Whittier is bordered in the north by the nations of Cromagnonia, Neandertalia, and Australipithicinea.

In Earth II whittier is located in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, and Honduras. In Earth IV Whittier is located in California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Wyomings, and New Mexico. In Earth V Whittier is composed of Iran and Grenada.

Climate:

Hot and dry in the east. Plenty of rain fall in the in the rain forest. Adequate to moderate weather in the agricultural areas. Cold up north in the mountains during the winter. Somewhat hot in the summer.

Terrain:

In the east is a large desert. Moving west is a rain forest. Next to that is grass prairie. The aqua blue part is agricultural land.

Natural hazards:

Some of the volcanoes in the mountain range are still active. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, droughts, earthquakes, spring flooding, seasonal wild fires.

Environmental Issue:

air pollution from heavy industry, municipal, and agricultural pollution of inland waterways and seacoasts; deforestation; soil erosion; urban solid waste management; abandoned stocks of bioweapons, fertilizers and other toxic chemicals.

History of Whittier

The Moon Crises

Early January 2003 Secretary General Alexander Brezhnekov, fearing that Whittier will be left out in the race to establish colonnies and bases on the moon in the great lunar rush, dispatches troops to the moon under the auspices of defending the moon natives from Earth Domination. Several nations condemned this action and demanded Whittier's full withdrawal from the moon. Among those in opposition to Whittier were several nations on the moon, the United States of the South Pacific, Crystal Palaise, and several others. In opposition to Whittier's troop deployment, the United States of the South Pacific sent its own forces to moon to Whittier from grabbing more lunar soil. The Holy Empire of Canales, under the auspices of Emperor Canales, offered and helped negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The next day, Whittier formally proclaimed it was recognizing the independence of West Moon and would soon withdraw its forces. Though the total disarmament of West Moon was sought, this was never acheived. Whittier, at the invitation of the newly established government of West Moon, announced its intention to maintain a military presence on West Moon territory to prevent and counter hostile intentions on the part of the South Pacific and West Moon's neighbors. Victor Szachinsky was installed by Whittier as West Moon's first communist dictator. And a huge wall was built around west moon, complete with land mines and booby traps for any capitalist troops that would try to enter West Moon. During the dispute, Whittier often threatened the use of nuclear weapons, which alone prevented the conflict from becoming hot. But The USTSP countered with their own nuclear threats. Despite their bluff, it turned out that at this time, Whittier did not have nuclear weapons. The dispute ended with Whittier having a defacto colony or satellite state on the Moon. Winner: Whittier.

NakedTeenageGirls

Mid January 2003 At this time, socialist rebels rose up against the capitalist government of NakedTeenageGirls and tried to ban nudity. Until this time, NTG was a peaceful and prosperous nation where public nudity of females 12 to 40 was the norm. Seizing the opportunity to spread socialism around the world and gain an ally, Whittier dispatched 25,000 troops to NTG to help the socialists overthrow the capitalists and impose a socialist dictatorship government. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned as the military deployment was widely condemned by the world as aggression, despite Whittier claims to have been invited in. In a quick response to the Whittier Troop deployments, The United States of the South Pacific sent 25,000 of its own troops to NTG and began supplying the NTG government with arms and cash. Whittier reciprocated by supplying arms and cash to the rebels. Regretfully, the war went on for a very long time, as the situation became stalemated and both sides kept sending arms and cash to their clients in NTG. The conflict lasted till late February and resulted 150,000 Whittier deaths, 340,000 South Pacific deaths, and 23 million NTG deaths. The conflict came to an end in Late February when the TSP, facing antiwar protests at home and an enemy increasing in strength, and negative publicity finally withdrew its troops which it evacuated. TSP did dispatch an armada of Helicopters and gunships to NTG to evacuate the NTG government and fleeing citizens just before the socialists stormed the 12 embassies belonging to TSP and its allies. As the evacuees flew away they saw the first NTG flag dropped to the ground and the hammer and sickle raised in its place. This conflict is considered to have been Whittier's and TSP's Vietnam war. Unfortunately, both sides targeted civilians and used chemical weapons, including Napalm and VX indescriminately on troops and civilians alike. The war was a conflict in the struggle between the ideologies of Socialism and Capitalism. And the troop deployments were limited and the war restricted to NTG due to the fact that by the time it started, both sides already had substantial nuclear ICBM arsenals. Hence, it was contained due to MAD. Winner: Whittier.

Developments

While the NTG conflict was going on and just before Whittier intervention in the Ukraine Conflict on Russian Forces side, Whittier developed Battle Island. This weapon was deployed during the Ukraine Conflict and due to its distance from land, survived that wars huge nuclear exchange. Whittier was the only nation to have and use a battle island during this conflict and the first nation in all of nationstates to have one. However, after the Ukraine conflict, Battle Island suffered from Golden Fish Syndrome as the government refused to use it in other conflicts for awhile, till recently both due to the costs, and out fear that other nations might steal(copy) the technology. Whittier built 2 battle Islands and is working buiding 2 more.

The Ukrainian Conflict

This conflict started when the Empire of Osutoria Hungarii invaded Russian Forces held Ukraine. At this time Ukraine was part of Russia Forces. The Osutoria-Hungariians had invaded with the intent of annexing Ukraine. Since Russian Forces was a fellow socialist nation, the United Socialist States chose to come to their aid. Hence, one battleisland was dispatched to the baltic sea area. A week after its arrival, Whittier began dropping troops into Ukraine and bombing Osutorian troop positions and those of their allies, after announcing it was entering the war on the side of Russian Forces in order to expand the cause of socialism around the world. The antagonist to Whittier, The United States of the South Pacific, however, entered the war on the side of the Osutorians. Up to this point, Whittier aircraft had been proving their superiority over those of Osutoria and its allies and the Whittier/RF alliance was dominating the skies over Europe. With the entry of the South Pacific into this war however, that dominance ended and there came to a Maginot line both on the ground and in the sky as the two sides pushed the boundary back and forth. The South Pacific entered the war just to oppose Whittier. While the TSP and allies began gaining ground on the ground, Whittier began to push the allies back and retake dominance of the air. With the arrival of additional Whittier and Russian and allied ground troops, the Socialist Alliance began pushing the aggressors out of Ukraine and some Whittier airborne troops had landed inside Osutoria itself and had began besieging internal Osutorian assets (taking a couple of Osutorian cities). This forced Osutoria to pull many of its troops out of Ukraine to deal with the backline assualt. For reasons that are unknown even today, then Secretary General Brezhnekov, placed Whittier's nuclear arsenal on Defcon 3. The South Pacific replied likewise, saying it would not be bullied. Whittier then moved to Defcon 2 demanding that the South Pacific and its allies immediately leave Ukraine and Osutoria. Refusing to do this, the South Pacific instead went to Defcon 2 as well. Many nations on both sides tried to resolve the situation diplomatically. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Whittier was winning in the air and Russian Forces was winning on the ground, Secretary General Alexander Brezhnekov ordered the launch of 15,000 nuclear tipped ICBM's at the South Pacific and its allies. Psychiatrists would later agree this was done because Brezhnekov had lost his mind. The South Pacific and its allies, being hit by nuclear weapons, responded with a massive nuclear counter attack against both Whittier and Russian Forces and their allies. All nations involved in the war essentially became radioactive wastelands. Even troops in Naked Teenage Girls were destroyed by nukes and that nation became a radioactive wasteland. The Whittier economy and national infrastructure were completed devastated and huge chunks of Whittier territory were irradiated and inhospitable. Whittier lost over 12 million people (both military and civilian) because of the unjust use of nuclear weapons. The resulting treaty banned the use of nuclear weapons by all nations.

Military Coup

Very upset over the outbreak of nuclear war, the Whittier military moved in and arrested Brezhnekov removing him from power. Upon seizing control of Whitter, the military junta declared Whittier's surrender to the Osutorian allies. Which was accepted. Ukraine remained part of Russia. An international agreement was hammered out in which all nations agreed to help each other rebuild regardless of which side of the war they were on. Brezhnekov was to have been tried by international tribunal but was executed by Whittier military for crimes against humanity instead. His family was hunted down and those who were found were brutally murdered. Martial law was declared throughout whittier and protest and free speech were banned. Those caught violating the curfew or other new laws imposed by the junta were shot and killed on the spot. The military's actions were widely condenmed around the world. Consequently, the military junta began irrationally threatening other nations and announced it was withdrawing from the no nuke treaty agreement. The military condemned the South Pacific and other nations attempting to interfere in Whittier's internal affairs. Human rights abuses were widespread throughout the land of Whittier during this time. And civilians were often picked up off the street and killed just for entertainment and the leader of the junta, General Raul Cedras, would order women as young as 12 kidnapped right off the street and brought to his palace where he would proceed to violent rape them and then have them dumped back on the street bloodied and without clothes. General Cedras quickly earned the nickname: Madman of Whittier.
