The Kingdom of Widesia is a very large, socially progressive nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate population of 181 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 50%, and even higher for the wealthy. A substantial private sector is led by the Book Publishing industry, followed by Woodchip Exports and Pizza Delivery.
Retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, protests are legal but strictly supervised, the study of medicine is popular throughout Widesia, and military funding has been stripped back. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown. Widesia's national animal is the tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the florin.
