WorldTech Industries, or WTI (SSE: WTI) is a multinational conglomerate focusing on technology, energy, arms and services. In the 1870s, peculiarities in Hamptonshire's tax laws and accounting practices made it fashionable to assemble conglomerates. WTI, which was a conglomerate long before the term was coined, is one of the very few corporations to achieve great success with this kind of organization becoming one of the largest corporations in the world.

History

In 1692, Prince Edward of Sandrin, grandfather of future Grand Duke Harald IV, opened a new insurance house, World Insurance, in Seaburg. In less than a decade Prince Edward amassed enough capital to make two acquisitions: a shipping company and a merchant's bank.

In 1701, Prince Edward and his associate Frederick H. Selvejer incorporated the entity known as World Insurance and changed its name to WorldTech Industries. Until the early 1870s all acquisitions were folded directly into WorldTech Industries, as laws began to change new acquisitions were integrated as wholly own subsidiaries. WTI's primary rival, Tenatura appeared on the stage in 1884. Since that time both companies have been locked in intense, but friendly, competition.

WTI is a private corporation, not a government-owned enterprise. However, the Royal Family currently privately owns approximately 60% of the company's voting shares. In addition, the Royal Family established the Royal Citizens' Trust (RCT), a quasi-governmental charity organization, and gave the RCT 10% of WTI's voting shares. The remaining 30% of the company's voting shares are traded on public stock exchanges.

Today

WTI is an enormous multinational conglomerate headquartered in Weslyn, Oltremare. WTI describes itself as composed of a number of primary business units or "Businesses." Each "business" is itself a vast enterprise, many of which would, even as a standalone company, rank as among the largest corporations in the world. The list of WTI divisions varies over time as the result of acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations.

In 2006, WTI announced its "Innovironmental" initiative in an attempt to position itself as a "green" company. Currently the company is establishing itself as one of the biggest players in the wind power industry and also developing new environment friendly products such as hybrid locomotives and photovoltaic cells.
