The nation of Gran Ixia has a long and ancient history. Well over a millenia ago, the Mayans sailed across the waters of their mysterious homeland and landed on the shores of Gran Ixia and they named it Chispear las Costas for the islands sparkling shores and beaches. The Mayan civilization was the most advanced but for unknown reasons, their culture and people vanished. In the year 1503, Spanish explorers, missionaries and traders arrived on the beaches where the present-day capital, San Lorenzo is located. The natives who are of Mayan decent, now called the Mestizos, attempted to fight the Spainards from taking away their land, it was hopeless since the Spanish explorer-soldiers were more advanced and better weaponry. Only mere months after landing on the island, the Spanards established their first permanent settlement on the location as to where they landed and named it San Lorenzo after their patron saint.

History

Hundreds and hundreds of Spanish settlers arrived soon afterwards and over the centuries, small settlements of Italian, British and French people soon sprung up. However, as more and more people arrived, the threat of plague rose and by the early 1600's, a massive plague epidemic broke out and killed well over 100,000 people throughout the island and nearly wiped out several small Mestizo tribes who still lived in the Nozama Rainforest in the interior of the island.

Ixia remained largely isolated and peaceful through the ages until the early 1800's when the idea of self-governance and indepedence started to feed through slowly through revolutionary texts found in the numerious education facilites on the island. The people at this point felt that they no longer considered themselves people of their mother countries but true Ixians, native citizens of the island and a long but rather bloodless revolution took place in 1821 and lasted only a mere two years. At the end of the revolution, the foreign powers were defeated and the Ixians took control of their destiny. The Island of Ixia remained in isolated and eventually became forgotten to all until now.

Ixia after its 183 years of isolation, it has finally flung its doors open to the international community. Chairman Tomás Medina-Valdez is the current leader who has just been 'elected' by the populace to lead their island paradise to their most wanted destinies. Former Chairman, Raúl si Sánchez is responsible for revitalizing and reawaking the national economy from its previous stagnation. Chairman Tomás pledges to continue to rebuild the nation's economy after its long period of isolation as well as a severe policy of moderization to make the island paradise more in line with the current day and age.
