About
Along with Curley, Quartpot is the only population centre in the remote Coast Range district in the Plateau province in Errinundera that is classified as a town.
It was originally settled by gold fossickers in the 1850s, but was rapidly overshadowed by the rich Bola Mine. For a time, prior to the Liberation of 1941, the Potties tried to establish a cattle industry, however it too was abandoned due to the difficulty of the terrain.
Finally, NGDV Ltd tried to establish a saw mill and clearfelling operation nearby. Once again, this came to nothing, being opposed by the vast majority of Errinundrians.
There are several theories as to how the town got its name. The most widely accepted is that it was named after the only really profitable enterprise in the town, the Quartpot Pub.
