Overview
The Kingdom of Portrigh is a large, safe nation, notable for its punitive income tax rates. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 29 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.
It is made up of five Provinces Portree, Raasay & Rona, Trotternish Peninsula, Dunvegan Peninsula, Central, Soay & Scalpay, Armadale Peninsula.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 75%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
Corporations are forbidden from employing outside the nation, all industry is owned and run by the government, drunk drivers are sent to rehabilitation paid for by the government, and welfare funding has recently gone through the roof. Crime is totally unknown. Portrigh's national animal is the Sheep, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Cuillin.
