From the NS World Factbook: The Principality of The New Model Army is a small, devout nation, renowned for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate population of 18 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.
History
The New Model Army was founded as a military alliance by seperate factions occupying Bama and Dama Islands in the South Mogs Sea region during the Victorian Era as a response to the threat of invasion by the British East Indies Company and French Indochina. The Dama Pact formally organized the factions into one military authority, The New Model Army, and later amendments (made unanimously by all parties) formally organized the state of The New Model Army. Despite its name, The New Model Army is not a military government or a government under perpetual martial law; there is a clear distinction between civil and martial authorities.
Politics
Prior to the founding of The New Model Army in The Dama Pact, each seperate ethnic group established their niche and enclave on Dama Island and existed as a sovereign political entitity independant of each other.
In technical terms, the modern government of the New Model Army is Democratic-Socialist. Private enterprise on the corporate level is illegal but recent economic conditions have forced the government to adopt a more lenient position towards big business.
The government is dominated by a single political party that can only come to power with the blessing of a three-quarters majority of all other opposition parties. The citizens of the New Model Army are extremely patriotic and jealously guard their right to enfranchisement; therfore in order for the government to function the executive branch is granted more power than most other democracies, though the legislative branch holds considerable clout; as a respectful nod to the New Model Army's namesake and to ensure that the executive branch never becomes tyrranical, the Houses Parliament maintains a small armed force (see Red Wings) that does not answer to the executive branch, which is commander and chief of all other armed forces.
The Umaro People are represented in the Houses Parliament and have citizen status in The New Model Army, however they are accorded a higher degree of autonomy, a status that dates back to the Treaty of Bama Island.
The socially-minded government is concerned with maintaining a high degree of invidiual freedom and political freedom without becoming bureaucratized and inefficient, as well as allowing enough economic freedom and environmental conservation.
Political Divisons
The New Model Army administers eight Parks and two Capital Cities under its federal government. The Autonomous Umaro Authority governs three Parks and one Capital City.
