Vice Admiral Tucker Norland comes from a Navy family. His grandfather served in the Excalbian Imperial Navy during the First World War and rose to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. His father continued the family tradition and enlisted in the Navy on the eve of the Second World War. During the war, he was offered the opportunity to attend Officer Canidate School and was eventually commissioned as an Ensign. When Tucker Norland was selected to attend the Imperial Naval Academy, it seemed to his father and grandfather to be the fitting culmination of their own careers.
Norland graduated from the Academy in 1975 with honors. Despite the general decline in the Imperial Navy under the reign of Emperor David III, Norland still managed to progress steadily through the ranks.
By 2003, Norland had risen to the rank of Vice Admiral. That same year, he was placed in command of one of the Imperial Navy's new carrier battle groups.
The following year, his flag ship - INV Reliant - was chosen to carry the first Excalbian diplomatic mission to the Danaan High Kingdom of the Resurgent Dream. For the first several weeks following the establishment of the Excalbian Embassy in the Danaan capital of Tarana Norland served as the Acting Naval and Military Attachè. In this capacity he helped establish an officer exchange program between Excalbia and the Resurgent Dream.
The first Danaan officer to take part in the program was Infantry Captain Tasha, a trollish officer of the Danaan Army. During her journey to Excalbia aboard Reliant, Tasha attracted Norland's romantic interest. Later, near the end of Tasha's assignment to the exchange program, she and Norland married. Naturalizing as an Excalbian citizen, Tasha Norland was commissioned as a brigadier-general in the Imperial Marines.
In 2005, following the Saxmere Secession Crisis and the events of the Shattering, which nearly cost Tasha her life, Norland accepted a shore assignment as the Commander of Imperial Naval Training Command. Tasha was also assigned to the Ministry of Defence and both now reside in Citadel Excalbia, the Imperial capital.
