The Holy Republic of Drunce
The Holy Republic of Drunce is a tiny, pleasant nation, remarkable for its burgeoning elephant population. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often. The medium-sized government is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 18%. A large private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Trout Farming and Book Publishing. Crime is moderate. Drunce's national animal is the elephant and its currency is the durrow. HistoryWhen the collapse of Rome left Absolution in a state of chaos, the lands that would eventually make up Drunce were particularly hard hit. For centuries after countries in Absolution united into nations, Drunce was a backwards society composed of scores of small feuding tribes. Just a few decades ago, a great leader named David Williams united many of the tribes of Drunce under a common banner. After he passed away, His Holy Majesty Stü Mason became the first elected Minister of Drunce. CultureDrunce has a strong maritime history and culture, due to its position as a coastal nation. For centuries, the inhabitants of this region have fished the coastlines and explored the islands in the immediate vicinity of Drunce. Geography and ClimateDrunce is a long, narrow strip of land on the western coast of Absolution. The climate is tropical, with much of the inland portion of the developing nation covered with jungles. On the very eastern border of Drunce is a small mountain range, and to the northeast lies a desert. Drunce TodayGovernmentAlthough the government employs some elements of theocracy, and Drunce is still viewed as backwards by many of the surrounding nations, it is a rapidly developing nation. Drunce is currently not a member of the UN. Economy |
