The Holy Republic of Drunce is a tiny, pleasant nation, remarkable for its burgeoning elephant population. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 6 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized government is mainly concerned with Law & Order, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 19%. A large private sector is led by the Information Technology industry, followed by Trout Farming and Book Publishing.

Crime is moderate. Drunce's national animal is the elephant and its currency is the durrow.

History

When the collapse of Rome left Absolution in a state of chaos, the lands that would eventually make up Drunce were particularly hard hit. For centuries after countries in Absolution united into nations, Drunce was a backwards society composed of scores of small feuding tribes.

Just a few decades ago, a great leader named David Williams united many of the tribes of Drunce under a common banner. After he passed away, His Holy Majesty Stü Mason became the first elected Minister of Drunce.

The Triple Alliance

Shortly following the foundation of Drunce, a firm alliance was made with the Cattle Pasture. Within weeks, the Collaberation of Darta Soph was added, and a rich friendship quickly developed between the three nations. It is their long term goal that eventually every nation in the region will have joined in the alliance. After a few months of fighting with Lach-Land, Tols joined the alliance. Now that the war with Lach-Land is over, in the face of the Sangrisian threat, it is the hope of many that Lach-Land will one day become a member of the alliance.

War with Lach-Land

Almost immediately after the alliance was formed, it was put to the test. Lord Lachlan, the dictator of Lach-Land, demanded economic aid from The Cattle Pasture, and threatened invasion if the demands were not met. The Collaberation of Darta Soph was more than willing to pay, however, Minister Stü Mason talked them out of it. It was his logic that if the payment be made, it would only be a matter of time before Lord Lachlan would want more. Therefore, the three nations must put their collective foot down, and fight.

Lach-Land's invasion forces made very little progress, swamped as they are by Drunce raiders hasseling their advances. Also, thanks to a series of highly strategic missile strikes by the Cattle Pasture, Lach-Land had very little support and intelligence for fighting the war outside of its own borders. The war ground to a stalemate, and perhaps would still be being waged in all its futility if not for the emergence of a common threat, resulting in a ceasefire.

Operation Absolution

Amidst the chaos of the War with Lach-Land, the Imperial Forces, Sangrisian division mobilized for a full-scale invasion of Absolution. For several weeks they marched through Absolution, subsuming small nations into their ever-growing empire. The first real resistance they met came in the form of the Lach-Land Grand Army. The Triple Alliance soon mobilized to help Lach-Land fight this common enemy. This war is still ongoing, with Sangrisia using brutal propganda tactics in an attempt to undermine the Absolution War Machine, with the opposing nations struggling to fight back with conventional methods. New Sydriel recently joined the war, to help beat back Sangrisia.

As things reached a fever pitch, Sangrisia made a sudden offer for peace. One Drunce was glad to accept. The details of this summit are currently being hammered out.

Culture

Drunce has a strong maritime history and culture, due to its position as a coastal nation. For centuries, the inhabitants of this region have fished the coastlines and explored the islands in the immediate vicinity of Drunce.

The Elephant, for reasons unknown, is of special significance to the people of Drunce.

Geography and Climate

Drunce is a long, narrow strip of land on the western coast of Absolution. The climate is tropical, with much of the inland portion of the developing nation covered with jungles. On the very eastern border of Drunce is a small mountain range, and to the northeast lies a desert.

Drunce Today

Government

Although the government employs some elements of theocracy, and Drunce is still viewed as backwards by many of the surrounding nations, it is a rapidly developing nation. Drunce is currently not a member of the UN.

The Drunce government has formed alliances with the Collaberation of Darta Soph, and also the Cattle Pasture. The Drunce Bureau of Foreign affairs has expressed desire to use this triple alliance as the base for building a strong Absolution-wide coalition to promote friendship between the 250 nations of the Absolution region. It recognizes that this will be a mammoth task, but is confident it can be done.

Drunce has a good, strong economy, with information technology being its strongest private sector. (Admittedly, this is a curiosity for a nation that is "developing")
