History

The Confederacy of Liberal Men and Women is the current embodiment of what used to be the only government in Eternia. Even after all of the break away countries formed, The Confederacy is still the largest.

In year EY 91, upon the death of Jacob Featherston at the age of 111, a new election occurred, the first in 55 years. The results of this election caused the Jefferson party to begin a civil war due to it's desire to remain in power after its loss.

Economy

There is a strong corporate presence in the Confederacy, dominated by The Cairhienen Corporation and the much newer Jeffersonian Engineering Corporation who fight for dominance in the Confederate markets, and capitalism is allowed to thrive.

Statistics

  • Exchange Rate: 1 credit = $1.9871

Electrical Economy

As of Eternian Year 91 (7/4/07), the average energy use per capita in the Confederacy was 15 kW/person. This leads to an instantaneous energy consumption of 8.85 TW, and yearly energy consumption of greater than 77.5 PWh.

There are two major electrical companies in the Confederacy. The first is Confederated Electric (CE), which uses primarily nuclear(~70%) and hydro electric power(~30%), with light fossil fuel supplement when usage unexpectedly exceeds availability, yet a new reactor is not ready yet, since reactors take about 4 years to build, and energy usage can change unexpectedly in four years. CE is constantly building new reactors to keep pace with population growth. The CE provides energy for the majority of the population; specifically about 560,000,000(~95%) customers, with an average rate of 3 chits per kWh, with the average yearly bill at about ₢4,000 / person. This gives CE a yearly revenue of about ₢2.2 trillion or ~16.3% of the GDP

The other 30 million people choose to buy their energy from the Clean Energy Consortium(CEC). The CEC vow to never use any polluting energy source, and in fact use entirely Solar and Wind power, and as such their main customers are affluent environmentalists and panicky hippies. They charge about 25 chits per kWh, giving it's customers an average bill of about ₢32,900 per year, and the CEC post a yearly revenue of over ₢986 billion, or ~7.3% of the GDP.

The energy industry is about a ₢3.2 trillion a year business and is ~23.5% of the entire GDP.

Statistics:

  • Average instantaneous consumption: >8.85 TW
    • /capita: ~15 kW
  • Average yearly consumption: >77.5 PWh
    • /capita: ~130 MWh

Social Welfare

Social welfare has been abolished to force people to become self dependent; however, there is a ~₢186 billion Healthcare budget for those who cannot afford it; however, this budget is shrinking.

Education

The Confederacy has long been a supporter of public education. It's funding is nearly ₢403 billion. Education is compulsory through all of high school.

Literacy is ranked at 100%

Space Program

On August 26, Year 10, the Confederacy began a space program in conjunction with a number of corporations. So far, they have begun to launch rockets into the upper atmosphere.

On May 9, Year 12, not even 2 years since the beginning of the program, the Confederacy successfully orbited the first artificial satellite in Eternian history that remained in orbit for an appreciable time. It stayed in a more or less stable orbit for over a month before it began to destabilize, finally burning up a month after that.

By September 28, Year 23, the Confederacy had built a sizable communications network, beaming communications around the country, and the globe, allowing people who had never even heard of Eternia to find out what was happening. This was truly a major step into the international arena.

Since then, the Confederacy has begun to launch Space Based RADAR satellites, and is beginning to integrate these devices with UDFCLMW forces on the ground to better organize the forces and give advance warning of attacks. Unfortunately, these satellites are as vulnerable as any other.

Politics

A recent decision of the senate has been passed in the senate that has changed the length of the presidential term from 4 years to a life time term, meaning that the current president Jake Featherston may remain in power for a long time.

Political Parties

Until recently a communist party existed, but has folded into the Nationalist Party.

Electoral votes were recently changed from one per 1 million people to one per 10 million people.

  • Keldor: 6 electoral votes
  • Cringer: 6 electoral votes
  • She-Ra: 6 electoral votes
  • Randor: 6 electoral votes
  • Grayskull: 17 electoral votes
  • Eternos: 18 electoral votes

The Election of EY 4 (4/8/07)

President Marvin Jefferson ran against two other candidates, Senator Williams and the retired police chief Donaldson. The vote break down was as follows(Jefferson/Williams/Donaldson):

  • Keldor: 15/79/4; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Cringer: 56/21/22; 1 vote to Jefferson
  • She-Ra: 1/77/21; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Randor: 13/68/17; 1 vote to Williamson
  • Grayskull: 43/5/51; 3 votes to Donaldson
  • Eternos: 47/23/29; 3 votes to Jefferson
  • Totals:
    • Jefferson:
      • 4 electoral votes
      • ~36% of the votes
      • ~3,550,000 votes
    • Williamson:
      • 3 electoral votes
      • ~33% of the votes
      • ~3,290,000 votes
    • Donaldson:
      • 3 electoral votes
      • ~30% of the votes
      • ~3,040,000 votes

This is the most hotly contested presidential election in recorded history. Many analysts have concluded that if only Donaldson opponents had run, then there may have been a president-elect Donaldson. The same is not true for Williamson, for it has been concluded that he would not have won Grayskull.

The Election of EY 8 (4/12/07)

President Marvin Jefferson, the incumbent, ran against only one other candidates, former UDFCLMW minister, General Howard. The vote break down was as follows(Jefferson/Howard):

  • Keldor: 38/59. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Cringer: 51/47. 3 electoral votes for Jefferson.
  • She-Ra: 23/76. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Randor: 34/63. 2 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Grayskull: 31/67. 4 electoral votes for Howard.
  • Eternos: 62/35. 5 electoral votes for Jefferson.
  • Totals:
    • Jefferson:
      • 8 electoral votes
      • ~43% of the votes
      • ~7.74 million votes
    • Howard:
      • 10 electoral votes
      • ~54% of the votes
      • ~9.72 million votes

This election threw the analysts for a loop. It was expected for Jefferson to win handily; however, the analysts underestimated the effect of the War of Liilte Aggression. It was expected that the president who was capable of signing the treaty to end the war would win, but the border states voted for the military candidate in the hope of the increased defense his policies would provide, and those border states in conjunction witht he military dependant Grayskull sealed Howard the election. Another unexpected occurrence was that Howard announced his intent to appoint Jefferson as his Minister of Education.

The Election of EY 12 (4/16/07)

The third election post-breakup was a non event since General Howard ran unopposed.

The Election of EY 16 (4/20/07)

Retired General Howard, the incumbent, ran against only one other candidates, Senator Martindale. The vote break down was as follows(Howard/Martindale):

  • Keldor: 64/33, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • Cringer: 62/35, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • She-Ra: 23/75, 5 electoral votes for Martindale
  • Randor: 69/36, 5 electoral votes votes for Howard
  • Grayskull: 73/25, 10 electoral votes for Howard
  • Eternos: 38/61, 15 electoral votes for Martindale
  • Totals:
    • Howard:
      • 25 electoral votes
      • ~53% of the votes
      • ~23.9 million votes
    • Martindale:
      • 20 electoral votes
      • ~46% of the votes
      • ~20.6 million votes

Howard was able to hold the presidency due to the concern of the border states for the possibility of an attack. This paranoia originates from the War of Liilte Aggression. This in addition to Grayskull, the military province, held for him the majority.

The Election of EY 20 (4/24/07)

Retired General Howard, the incumbent, ran against one other candidates, a man named Jake Featherston. The vote break down was as follows(Howard/Featherston):

  • Keldor: 15/83, 7 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Cringer: 18/81, 7 electoral votes for Featherston
  • She-Ra: 12/84, 7 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Randor: 10/87, 7 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Grayskull: 72/26, 20 electoral votes for Howard
  • Eternos: 5/93, 20 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Totals:
    • Howard:
      • 20 electoral votes
      • ~28.3% of the votes
      • ~19.25 million votes
    • Featherston:
      • 48 electoral votes
      • ~69.5% of the votes
      • ~47.25 million votes

The results are due to the platform on the recent assassination of prominent figure, former president Marvin Jefferson. However, Featherston has acknowledged Howard's military expertise and has offered him the position of UDFCLMW minister again.

The Election of EY 24 (4/28/07)

Featherston ran unopposed because no one could beat out his platforming on the death of a hero.

The Election of EY 28 (5/2/07)

This was the first election with the new political parties frmed. Each party ran their leader for president. The breakdown is as follows (Featherston/Donaldson/Howard/Martindale):

  • Cringer: (34/4/3/57), 13 electoral votes for Martindale
  • She-Ra: (89/2/3/5), 13 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Randor: (76/11/5/6), 13 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Grayskull: (21/8/63/7), 30 electoral votes for General Howard
  • Eternos: (24/73/1/1), 35 electoral votes for Donaldson
  • Totals:
    • Featherston:
      • 39 electoral votes
      • ~43.9% of the votes
      • ~51.36 million votes

    • Marindale:
      • 13 electoral votes
      • ~10.4% of the votes
      • ~12.2 million votes

Featherston continued to lead the country because of his platform of rembrance. This elecion is also a good indication of the strength of each party in the different provinces of Eternia.

The Election of EY 32 (5/6/07)

Each party again ran their leaders for president. The breakdown is as follows (Featherston/Donaldson/Howard/Martindale):

  • Keldor: (99/0/0/0), 17 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Cringer: (40/0/0/57), 17 electoral votes for Martindale
  • She-Ra: (99/0/0/0), 17 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Randor: (99/0/0/0), 17 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Grayskull: (12/10/70/7), 35 electoral votes for General Howard
  • Eternos: (11/85/1/1), 38 electoral votes for Donaldson
  • Totals:
    • Featherston:
      • 51 electoral votes
      • ~46.6% of the votes
      • ~65.67 million votes
    • Donaldson:
      • 38 electoral votes
      • ~25.4% of the votes
      • ~35.8 million votes
    • Howard:
      • 35 electoral votes
      • ~17.6% of the votes
      • ~24.88 million votes
    • Marindale:
      • 17 electoral votes
      • ~8.9% of the votes
      • ~12.52 million votes

Featherston continued to lead the country because of his platform of rembrance.

The Election of EY 36 (5/10/07)

Each party again ran their leaders for president. The breakdown is as follows (Featherston/Donaldson/Howard/Martindale):

  • Keldor: (99/0/0/0), 20 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Cringer: (33/0/0/66), 20 electoral votes for Martindale
  • She-Ra: (99/0/0/0), 20 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Randor: (99/0/0/0), 20 electoral votes for Featherston
  • Grayskull: (14/14/70/0), 40 electoral votes for General Howard
  • Eternos: (13/85/0/0), 45 electoral votes for Donaldson
  • Totals:
    • Featherston:
      • 60 electoral votes
      • ~46.9% of the votes
      • ~77.45 million votes
    • Donaldson:
      • 45 electoral votes
      • ~26.6% of the votes
      • ~43.85 million votes
    • Howard:
      • 40 electoral votes
      • ~17% of the votes
      • ~28 million votes
    • Marindale:
      • 20 electoral votes
      • ~8% of the votes
      • ~13.2 million votes

Featherston's power and influence is only increasing, while the other parties power is waning.

The Election of EY 91 (7/4/07)

After the death of Featherston, only the Jefferson and Nationalist parties put up candidates. The Jefferson party nominated Jefferson Pinkard. The Nationalist party nominated William Roberts. The election results are as follows (Pinkard/Roberts):

  • Keldor: (83/17), 60 votes for Pinkard
  • Cringer: (25/75), 60 votes for Roberts
  • She-Ra: (83/17), 60 votes for Pinkard
  • Randor: (83/17), 60 votes for Pinkard
  • Grayskull: (50/50), 125 votes for Disputed (see below)
  • Eternos: (4/96), 130 votes for Roberts
  • Totals:
    • Pinkard:
      • 180 or 305 electoral votes
      • ~46.9% of the votes
      • ~232.1 million votes
    • Roberts:
      • 190 or 315 electoral votes
      • ~53.1% of the votes
      • ~262.9 million votes

The election was actually called in favor of Roberts by the vote counters in Grayskull; however, the results were close enough that the Jefferson party demanded a recount. This delayed the election, but it was still called in favor of the Nationalist party, by a larger margin in fact. Problems arose when Ferdinand Koenig refused to leave office and declared himself the new president. The Jefferson party rallied around the charismatic Pinkard against both the Nationalists and Koenig. The nationalists called for support from the UDFCLMW against Koenig, but they refused on the grounds that that could be considered a military coup.

Violence began when the Jeffersons raided the capitol building, killed Koenig among a number of innocent people, and installed Pinkard as ruler. When the Nationalists began protesting this, the Jeffersons opened fire on them. This sparked a full scale civil war, that so far the UDFCLMW has been trying to stop without favoritism.

Embassy Row

Embassy Row is a brand new district on the outskirts of Eternos. It is not considered part of Eternos the city, but is within wlking distance of the capitol building. It, along with a few cross streets is to be the centralized location of primary embassies to the Confederacy.

There are expansion plans should it prove necessary.

Detailed Embassy Row information is kept here.

International Relations

The Confederacy has been initiating programs to extend into the international community, in spite of it's societal phobia of the ocean.

The Confederacy maintains embassies in the following countries:

  • Calizornistan
  • Altacea
  • Irixia

In addition, the Confederacy has recently solidified an alliance with Irixia. It contained the following points:

  1. Should one of the involved nations be attacked, the other is compelled to come to its defense, if so requested by the attacked nation.
  2. Should one of the involved nations, in an offensive war, be invaded, and ask for assistance, the other nation is compelled only to assist in repelling the invasion and no more.
  3. Should one of the nations be an aggressor in a war, the other is not required to help in any way, but nor is it discouraged from assisting.
  4. Any and all trade between the two nations, which is encouraged, but not required by this pact, should be conducted with minimal taxing and tariffs and shall obey all laws of the sovereign nations.
  5. This pact neither disallows nor discourages other alliances for the two nations.
