Overview

The Kingdom of Portrigh is a large, safe nation, remarkable for its strong anti-business politics.

It is made up of five Provinces Portree, Raasay & Rona, Trotternish Peninsula, Dunvegan Peninsula, Central, Soay & Scalpay, Armadale Peninsula.

Its compassionate, intelligent population of 40 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 77%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Ten year-olds regularly found their own political parties, artists are pillars of society, politicians are losing their jobs in a plan to make the government 'leaner and fitter', and dog breeding has been banned in accordance with recent animal experimentation laws. Crime is totally unknown. Portrigh's national animal is the Sheep, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Cuillin.

The Kingdom has two main langauges English and Gaelic, which is a derivative of Scottish Gaelic. There are several other minor dialects spoken but these tend to be only in small areas where non Portrigians , (Portrigian - someone born in the Kingdom), have settled. These include Irish, Norsemen and various others from the Stornoway region.
