Overview

The Kingdom of Portrigh is a very large, safe nation, remarkable for its devotion to social welfare.

It is made up of five Provinces Portree, Raasay & Rona, Trotternish Peninsula, Dunvegan Peninsula, Central, Soay & Scalpay, Armadale Peninsula.

Its compassionate, intelligent population of 88 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and the Environment. The average income tax rate is 83%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Motorists must pay to enter inner-cities during peak hours, retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, the institution of marriage is held sacred and strictly enforced, and parents are held criminally responsible for their children's crimes. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare.

Portrigh's national animal is the Sheep, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Cuillin.

The Kingdom has two main langauges English and Gaelic, which is a derivative of Scots Gaelic. There are several other minor dialects spoken but these tend to be only in small areas where non Portrigians , (Portrigian - someone born in the Kingdom), have settled. These include Irish, Norsemen and various others from the Stornoway region.
