Adalese presidential election, 1991

The Adalese presidential election in 1991 had Arnold Dier van Skogen of the Christian Democrats elected Federal President for the first time. The election was uncommonly close, and almost any of the seven candidates could have won the election. The closeness continued in the second round of the election where Van Skogen defeated Gunnar Söder with only around 150,000 votes.

The turnout in the first round of the election was 69.9 % and in the second round 71.4 %. The election became needed after Federal President Fredrik Gräslig died in office 17 May 1991. First round was held on 16 October and second round on 30 October.
