History
The United Socialist States of Aetherias declared independence on 15 March 1714. The fledgling nation adopted Aether I as the country's first Tsar on 17 March 1714. On 17 September 1986, a march held to protest government policies led to a full-scale revolution, during which the Imperial family was assassinated. A Provisional Government ruled Aetherias for 7 months, until the Communist Party of Aetherias (CPA) came to power. The CPA transformed Aetherias into its current state as the Soviet Socialist Republic of Aetherias.
Government
Aetherias is ruled by the Communist Party of Aetherias (CPA). No public elections are held, but members of local branches of the CPA elect Provincial Governors who in turn elect Ministers who will in turn elect the Chairman of the CPA.
Society
The CPA maintains strict control over the people of Aetherias. All newspapers, television and radio channels are operated by a single organization, MediaCorp, which is operated by the government. Any criticism of the government and communism is forbidden, both in the media as well as among private conversation.
About the nation
Aetherias is named after Aether, the Ancient Greek god of light. It is not the same as the nation of Aetherios, although it is possible both names share the same origin. The national motto of Aetherias is Heute die Welt, morgen das Sonnensystem! - Today the world, tomorrow the solar system!. The motto signifies the CPA's aim to spread communism not only to countries on Earth, but also extraterrestrial communities on neighbouring planets. The national anthem of Aetherias is that of the former Soviet Union. It is played without lyrics.
