History

The United Socialist States of Aetherias declared independence on 15 March 1714. The fledgling nation adopted Aether I as the country's first Tsar on 17 March 1714.

Government

Through nationwide elections held every 5 years, Aetherians elect a local representative to the Aetherian Senate. The head of government is a Tsar in direct descent from Tsar Aether I, the first Tsar of Aetherias. The current tsar is Aether III, the 19th descendant of Aether I. The Tsarist family has had a troubling history of premature deaths. Tsar Aether I had only been on the throne for 3 weeks when he was strangled to death by his pet cat. Since then many Tsars and Crown Princes have met their untimely deaths through dive-bombing piegons, pecking roosters, unwashed socks, etc...

Society

Tsar Aether II enjoys tremendous support from Aetherians who are a fiercely patriotic lot. The people of the nation of Karken, however, seem to enjoy dining on Aetherians. The general consensus among Aetherians, therefore, is that Karkenians are insane.

About the nation

Aetherias is named after Aether, the Ancient Greek god of light. It is not the same as the nation of Aetherios, although it is possible both names share the same origin. Tsar Seraph IV introduced the national anthem of Aetherias on 1 January 1846. The anthem, in Latin, was written to the music of the Soviet/Russian national anthem:

Munio patria aeterna eternus
Semper animis opibusque parati
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
Dum tempus habemus, opermur vici
Avé, Imperator - Dominus patrie!
Qui vivat atque plurimos annos
Nulli nisi stolidi credo deus in esse
Patria communis omnium parens
