The Imperium of Ankhmet is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 1.529 billion are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Education. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, followed by Information Technology and Beef-Based Agriculture.
The government is attempting to impose a new national language on the public, the nation has recently been attributed to the funding of terrorist organisations, a survey of the nation’s rivers and children has shown that pesticide levels are at an all-time regional high, and an underground movement of cigarette smokers has sprung up in response to a government ban. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Ankhmet's national animal is the Dead Ewok, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its currency is the Republic Credit.

The Ankhmeti government is made up of a series of commissars, all subservient to the 'People's Commissar for all Ankhmeti Affairs', usually shortened to PC. The PC has total control over all that goes on in the Union, and can comand the Ankhmeti Red Guards to do anything he wishes. PC is a position for life, and after the death of the PC a new one is elected by the military leaders and commissars.
Language
The language of Ankhmet is officially Ankhmeti, an obscure dialect of a First Dynasty Egyptian language. Now Ankhmeti is mostly only used for official ceremonies, some diplomatic affairs and declarations of war. There are some bedouin tribes in the western deserts that use Ankhmeti, but these people have a way of life that has not changed in 5 and a half thousand years. The everyday language of Ankhmet is English. Most street signs and shops have first Ankhmeti language sections, then a translation into English. This is because at least 1.499 billion of the people of Ankhmet speak English rather than Ancient Egyptian.
