The following article relates to the Arctic Ocean as it relates to NationStates. For more general information, please see the Wikipedia article on the subject.

The Arctic Ocean is the body of water which covers the Earth's North Pole and its surrounding area. Much of it is frozen all year round, and the climate is, obviously, polar. The Arctic Ocean, and the lands within it, experience near-continuous darkness throughout winter, and continuous daylight in summer.

It should be noted that, whereas Antarctica is a continent, there is no major Arctic landmass.

Unlike the lands in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, which are teeming with human and non-human life, what little land can be found in the Arctic Ocean is mostly uninhabited. The Ariddian Arctic Islands, some of which are trapped in ice come winter, are a notable exception.
