This article relates to the continent and those nations claiming territory there. Please visit Antarctica for the region of the same name.

Antarctica is a large continent located at the southern pole of the NS Earth. The name literally means "opposite of the Arctic", which is true in many regards. The Antarctic is the only large area of Earth remaining mostly unspoilt. With an area of 13,200,000 km², Antarctica is the fifth largest continent, after Eurasia, Africa, North America, and South America. It is the coldest place on Earth, and is covered in an ice sheet which averages 2.5km thick.

Claims to Antarctica

Numerous nations have laid colonial or overseas claims to Antarctic territory, including Ariddia, United Island Empires, The Mindset and Asgarnieu. These claims may be limited to small research outposts or larger tracts of land, and may or may not be recognized by other nations. (See also: Ariddian Antarctica, United Island Empires Antarctic Territories.)

Other nations and entire regions also claim Antarctic soil as their homeland. Prominent among Antarctic regions are Antarctica and Antarctic Oasis.
