The Dual Kingdom of Arnholm and Steindorf has a long and eventful history, stemming from around 100 B.C.

History

The Latonian Empire

The Latonian Empire was founded in 100 B.C. supposedly by Saint Michael, the patron saint of Arnholm and Steindorf. In its first one hundred years of existance it developed its ports and markets, and dominated the lands of Trinity economically, but soon the population grew too large for the area that they possessed and they built a mighty army of well organised armoured troops known as Jommes, backed by thier mighty Hoplite Spear Infantry they came to conquer all the lands of Trinity, defeating the Imafod, Kildurgan and Macedon Tribes. By 211 A.D. the Empire had grown and controlled all of Trinity, thier imperialistic goals didn't stopr as they colonised northern Aztika and took command of all the major sea trade routes.

They made powerful allies with nearby empires and became a respected nation throughout the nearby continent. Not even the Punic horde dared to touch the great empire, and the Punnes were also seen off after the battle of Gerret's Row.

All was quite and largely uneventful until the civil war in 1302 A.D that would last for 54 years.

The Latonian Civil War

The Latonian Civil War began in 1302 A.D. when Lord Selachi led an army of peasants to the Capital the city of Gang to confront the Emperor Julius III about his oppressive treatment of the people of the south, and the put a stop to his land siezures. Immediately the Emperor attacked Selachi's army, who though inferior in troop training and quality had a far better tactician at thier head, and Selachi won the battle. After the battle the Emperor fled to Steindorf, the Empire's second city, while Selachi set to work burning Gang to the ground. He then returned to the city of Arnholm (his capital) and raised a professional army, thus Arnholm was founded.

The Emperor was forced to flee Steindorf after Lord DeMonte lead a revolt against him the next year, forcing the Emperor to flee to the Empire's first city Latonia. All three of the factions still regarded themselves as part of the Latonian Empire, and this lead to conflicts between Arnholm and Steindorf, meanwhile the Emperor was assassinated and Latonia came under the rule of the Grand Princes and declared independance from the Latonian Empire in 1356 A.D. thus causing the end of the empire and the civil war.

The Age of the Independance Wars

The war continued on and off, many great battles were fought, but soon it came apparent that Steindorf was the most powerful, and in 1562 A.D. Sir Julian DeForte under orders from the Grand Duke Andre II of Steindorf, invaded Arnholm.

The Campaign was instantly successful as Sir Julian defeated Lord Hans Von Cabben of Arnholm at the battle of Brynne's Fell, then leading his army to Arnholm itself. The battle of Arnholm was brutal and bloody, but it was a victory to Steindorf.

Sir Julian entered the palace to claim the city and the Principality, however he found the Grand Prince dead, having committed suicide. Arnholm and Steindorf were at last united as one.

The Fall of Latonia

1832 A.D. Latonia voted almost unanimously to join the Dual Monarchy as a part of Steindorf, surrendering its long lineage, and it history of independance, by some this is considered to be the end of the Latonian Empire, however most believe it to have been before this date. With Latonia under the rule of the Dual Monarchy the lands of Trinity were at last complete.

Steindorf is the Capital province of Arnholm and Steindorf, it keeps much of its history alive and every year the seige of Arnholm is re-enacted to celebrate the union of the two nations.

It is impossible to say what the opinion of Arnholm is in Steindorf, it is certain that they see each other as bretheren and not as rulers to the conquered, but many don't like to talk about it.

There is totally free movement between the two provinces, and the King enforces the same rules and laws on both, despite thier differences.

Steindorf as a city is a vast sprawling metropolis the ancient walled city now lies at the centre, a home to the noble, the wealthy and the government, while the High Rise buildings and Sky Scrapers around it dwarf them, the bustling business district. Beyond the business district lies the residential areas, starting with flats, and appartments and reducing to houses as you leave the city centre. It would be suicide to try and enter the city as an invader, it is so vast and full of alleyways and passageways, making it perfect for ambushes, even the largest army would be shredded. On the very edge, the last flings of the city, lie the industrial blocks, vast areas of industrial buildings, warehouses and factories, recent pollution cantrol laws have had filters installed to prevent the thick smog that once engulfed the outer city, from returning. Beyond those lie vast areas of agricultural land, the main industry of Steindorf is farming, besides Steindorf itself thier are few large cities, most settlements are small villages and hamlets, at most a town.

The landscape of Steindorf is beautiful, lush, fertile and green, the government has long worked hard to preserve it, and keep it this way. As a result Steindorf is a very popular tourist destination.
