History

Bantoeri Island is a small tropical island, discovered by chance in 1846. It was the adventurer-explorer sir Lockburry who discovered the little paradise. In 1843 sir Lockburry set out on a perilous journey to prove the existence of the legendary sea snake. In those days it was believed by a large number of people that there really existed a gigantic see snake that crushed passing ships. Over the last 200 years there were many reported sightings of the creature by sailors, traders and fishermen.

Early 1843 sir Lockburry succeeded in retreiving a precious little golden statue. The statue was of Alegia origin, one of the rare artefacts that remained of the extinct Alegia civilization. The statue belonged to the king, but it had mysteriously disappeared a while ago. The king, sincerely pleased that sir Lockburry refound the statue decided to give a huge festival as a thanks. A lot of people attended the festival, there was singing, dancing, but most of all: Free drinks! After some time pretty much everyone was totally wasted. sir Lockburry promised the king that he would go and find 'that craaaazy zea znake', after which he fell on the floor, too drunk to get up before the next day. After the headache passed the next day, he couldn't even remember promising such a stupid thing to the king, he considered the sea snake himself a myth. But of course it was a good excuse to go on an adventure again, so he set sail in the spring of 1843, to find the monster.

In 1846 they had been sailing almost 3 entire years, but they never saw the sea snake. And then, one stormy night, they drifted off course. The next morning the saw, right in front of them, an island that wasn't indicated on the maps. sir Lockburry and his crew explored the island, and named it 'Bantoeri' island, after a local animal that made a noise that sounded as 'bantoeri'. They liked the island so well, that they completely forgot about the sea snake -which probably wasn't even real anyway- and they stayed on the island.
