The Kingdom of Bertling lies on the south-western coast of the sub-continent of Hyper Nordica. The landscape varies from coastal flood-plains in the south, via hills along the western coast, and to the rugged mountains of the Nordican Range in the north.
Government and Administration
The government is comprised of the four Ministers and the National Chancellor. These are appointed by the Monarch, and are usually drawn from the ranks of the nobility and captains of industry. Their mandates are to advice the Monarch and oversee the workings of their ministeries. The Chancellor is second only to the monarch, and speaks with the voice of the nation in all matters.
The Kingdom of Bertling is divided into twelve Cantons, each ruled in the king’s name by a Count. The Counts are advised by a citizens committee consisting of the twelve wealthiest persons in the Canton. No national assembly exists, but each month the Counts meet with the monarch in the Royal Counsel.
In the Royal Counsel, the twelve Counts and the government meet and discuss the nation’s affairs. The Counts and Ministers each have a vote, while the Chancellor has a double-vote. The monarch may overrule any decision made by the Counsel.

The capital, Port Skogheim, is located in the end of the Ormen fjord on the rocky Western coast of Bertling, in the Canton of Ridderborg. The city is by far the largest in the nation with 2.5 million inhabitants. Port Skogheim has recently undergone an extensive urban renewal project, and the Old Town has been brought back to it's beutiful 17th Century state. The two most prominent bulildings are the Royal Castle and the Hyper Nordica Tower.
THE ROYAL CASTLE Olavsborg commands the cityscape from its location on top of the Dragehodet hill above the Old Town. The first castle on Dragehodet was built in 1240 A.D. by king Sverre the Old. The current structure dates back to the 16th Century. The king resides in the castle, and this is were the Royal Counsil holds heir meetings.
THE HYPER NORDICA TOWER This modern 60 story, modern scyscraper is the tallest structure in Port Skogheim, and from its location in the modernized water-front Financial Row, it has quickly become a recognized land-mark.
