History

The history of The Grand Hierachal States of Bezhou, due to its diversified cultures and climates, is somewhat complex. Adding to this general confusion is the fact that Bezhou was originally a group of three small nations who joined together for mutual protection. Tracking down the history of each one has proved to be a challenging task for Bezhou historians, but recent archelogical finds hidden deep in the Amazon Rainforest have unvealed valuable information to Bezhou's past.

All this is now presented in this manner:

  • History of Frango
  • History of Techopia
  • History of Hvardem

All of this is subject to change, as archeological digs are still happening throughout Bezhou's territory.

History of Frango

The largest of the four nations, Frango was also the earliest to develop. Originally settled by a pack of immigrants from Europe, slightly west of modern day Clarksingtonland, Frango grew quickly due to its prime location: in central Florida. There was an abundance of land and food, along with a very lenient government, which lured thousands away from Europe to make the treacherous sea crossing to Frango. From the simple villages, cities began to be constructed, and soon the land of Frango was a sprawling metropolis of buildings and farmland.

Unfortunetly, King Edward Rosinni began to get greedy for power. Frango officialy had no military, its only armed people being policemen. Instituting a policy of mandatory servitude in the army, he quickly built up the Frangian army to over 100,000 men, all armed with spears, bows, and swords. The metal apparently came from lucrative trade deals all over the world, though most of the records recording these deals have been destroyed.

At any rate, Frango began to make a sieze for power by sailing 60,000 troops down near modern day Mexico. This is where Techopia comes into the picture.

History of Techopia

Of the three original states, Techopia had always been the most advanced. Their lack of water and arable land lead to develop ingenious methods of filtering sea water, drilling wells, and develop advanced irrigation systems. Where the Techopians originally came from has been lost into the ashes of history.

Militarily strong, mostly to defend from armies of natives trying to steal their food, Techopia was well prepared to recieve Frango's challenge. Although intially thinking the Frangians came in a peace mission, their opinion changed when several thousand Frangian soldiers rushed from the ships and slaughtered the hastily prepared Techopian welcome commitee. Furious at the sensless violence, Supreme Elect Juan Garcia declared war in an address at an emergency meeting of the Council of Elders. The Frangians met with pitiful resistance for the first few days, fooling themselves into thinking the invasion would go easy. They had not yet met the bulk of Techopian troops.

On June 30, by our calender, the Frangian army began to March southward down from its initial landing point. As they cleared sight of the ships, three divisions of elite Techopian troops placed a mixture of elemental sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate (saltpeter), the earliest use of gunpower in Bezhou's history, onto the ships. Once they were clear of the blast radius, longbow archers with flame tipped arrows shot a barrage at the ships, instantly igniting the mixture, and putting a quick end to all the ships. As one soldier recounts:

"At first it looked like nothing had happened, but before we knew it, the explosions began, small at first, and then becoming consecutively bigger and bigger until there was a deafening roar as the last of the explosives reacted, a flash of intense light, and when the smoke cleared, the sea was littered with the remains of the enemy ships. I myself was hit in the leg by a piece of wood shrapnel, which was extracted without much pain. Some of the other soldiers, being a bit closer, were not as lucky, and ten died from pieces of wood and iron embedding themselves deeply into their chests and heads."

When the Frangian troops rushed back to see what the explosion had been about, they were met by six more Techopian divisions which had arrived, raising the total number of Techopian troops to 30,000. Taking barrage after barrage of fire arrows, the Frangian troops advanced slowly under cover, sustaining losses of over 60% in some battalions, until they got close enough to use their own inferior bows. But before two full volleys had been completed, the Techopians had made a quick retreat, their rear covered by the largest soldiers in the army, fitted with giant shields to recieve any bombardment they might take.
