The Glorious Dominion of Blehtahepdakorum is once again emerging from a period of relative isolation during the reign of Interblatticus VI. During this recent interlude of relative dimness, The Dominion withdrew from all international activity to such a degree that the government now needs to investigate its own regional status. May the reign of his awesomeness the Holy Emperor Blehtahepdakor XVII be filled with glory.

History

The Glorious Dominion of Blehtahepdakorum was founded by the Blehtahepdakor I, who united the nomadic Blehtite people under his enlightened leadership. Blehtahepdakor I established a strong cental government with the proper mechanisms to preserve its integrity through time and a religion which could effectively safeguard its core values.

Over time Blehtahepdakorum expanded to include new areas and peoples and became a dominion, and eventually, a glorious dominion.

Holy Emperor Blehtahepdakor XVI Forkbeard brought Blehtahepdakorum into significant international involvement, even becoming the regional delegate to the United Nations of the region. During this time the Dominion was classified by the UN as a psychotic dictatorship. Blehtahepdakor Forkbeard became lax in his later years however and allowed the country to be classified as a Moralistic Democracy. There followed the reign of Interblatticus VI, who took little interest in the outside world, and consequently it is no longer even known what region Blehtahepdakorum was once the delegate of.

The nation is currently classified as an iron fist consumerist state, however the new emperor, Blehtahepdakor XVII, has promised to try to bring the state back to the psychotic dictatorship values upon which it was founded. The greatest obsticle to this is believed to be the feirce protection of the environment that the Blehtite mentality endorses, which presumably makes the regime appear just a little less psychotic to the UN than the category envisions.

Politics

The Glorious Dominion of Blehtahepdakorum is an authoritarian monarchy.

Religion

Blehtahepdakor I knew that he could not count on his successors to be as enlightened as himself. To protect his sublime ideology through the ages, he founded a religion, known as Blovieism. To do this he established an order of monks whom he had carefully analyze and codify his numerous brilliant wisdoms. From this he created a church heirarchy which to this day passes down his wisdom and teaches it to the people.

When the time comes to choose a successor to the thrown of Blehtahepdakorum, the religious leaders (archimandrites) hold a council (holy synod) and choose from among the descendants of Blehtahepdakor I the person who most embodies the spirit of the philosophies laid out by the first emperor (while exhibiting sufficient competence to carry it out). In this way Blehtahepdakorum may never develope the ineffectual monarchies many other countries get after years of inbreeding and succession by incompetents (also no successor is eligible if there is any such inbreeding in their family tree).

Executive

The Holy Emperor has absolute power. If they are found to be terminally incompetent or in contradiction to the philosophy of Blovieism, the Holy Synod after serious consideration may have the Emperor replaced.

Legislative

Blehtahepdakor I had studied the circumstances of previous nearby khanates and tsardoms and knew that the greatest danger to the enlightened rule of the autocrat would come from legislative assemblies of noblemen. He knew as well that he would need to appease these feudal lords in order to administer the dominion. As such, he caused the creation of a parliament of noblemen, the Supreme Soviet. Its proceedings would be secret, its members would be chosen by the Emperor, and its members could be expelled or otherwise punished by the Emperor for supporting "socially undesirable" motions.

Judicial

It is in the Emperor's interest to have an efficient judiciary. Though the enlightened rule of the emperor's may seem arbitrary and inconsiderate of perceived "rights" to the outside observor, Blehtahepdakor I had nothing but loathred for corruption. As such government magistrates and judges administer justice efficiently without preference for one class or type of defendant over another. Cases may be appealed from the lower level courts to a supreme court, The High Commissariat of Justice, and if the Emperor if feeling saucy, on up to the Emperor.

Laws

Blehtahepdakorum is known for some of its more unusual laws. For example:

  • Automobiles are generally banned and civilian ground transportation either takes place via rail ot horse.
  • Civilian housing may only have thatches roofs
  • City streets must be cobble-stone
  • Advertising is forbidden
  • The environment is stringently protected.

Geography

Blehtia Proper consists of fields where early blehtites herded giant tusked snails. As Blehtahepdakorum expanded it came to include a wide variety of other geography. Notably, the Ux-J'davian jungles are famously lush and beautiful, and saber-toothed snails, the national animal, roam freely there. The government of Blehtahepdakorum is unapologetic to those who are fangoriously devoured by this devious beast.

Cities

The capitol is Blehtahepdakoria, a beautiful city renouned for its thatched roofs and the many beautiful golden onion-domed spires of the Bloviant Church.

The second largest city is Ux-J'daf

Transportation

The Blehtian government has outlawed the civilian use of automobiles. Even the government only uses automobiles for military purposes and emergency equipment. The effect of this has been an emphesis on mass transportation, such as trains and subways. This is environmentally friendly and in the end more efficient than would otherwise be the case. It causes cities to be more compact, with negligible suburbs. This creates an "old world" kind of feel where most people live in cities above businesses and can walk to most of the shops they need to visit on a daily basis. The Blehtian government sees this as desirable.

Military

The Grand Strategy of the Blehtian military is currently anchored on deterrence and flexible response.

In the interest of deterring attack, the military is actively pursuing both long range missile capabilities and biological and chemical weapons.

The actions the military does expect to face it expects to require a fast response possibly in an unexpected area. Emphasis therefore is on easily mobile forces. While the navy maintains all the normal variety of naval vessels, it has a particularly large number of amphibious assualt ships and helicoptor carriers, ready to steam to hotspots and disgorge elite Blehtite stormtroopers. Submarines and ballistic missile submarines are also favoured.

Ground forces are also maintained to protect the homeland and pacify newly acquired assets of the Dominion as they adjust to their new enlightened leadership.
