Map of Bourgania and Bourgogne (Burgundy)

Bourgania’s history began around the 5th century A.D. Bourgania was actually a branch off of the nation of Bourgogne (or Burgundy) which existed in the present-day nations of the Netherlands, Belgium, and northeast France. Bourgania, which was a colony of Bourgogne, gained its independence in the year 1495 when Bourganese radicals came to the conclusion that they didn’t agree with the views of the current monarch of Bourgogne. A brutal revolutionary war (later called the Pandemonic War of 1491) went on for almost four years. Bourgogne, which was at the time in it’s height of power, proved to be a difficult opponent for the new nation, Bourgania. But when all seemed at loss, some of the bordering Germanic states met in at a secret conference and agreed to send aid to the Bourgania in hopes of weakening their long-time rival, Bourgogne. To the astonishment of both Bourgogne and the rest of the world, Bourgania gained its independence with help of their German allies.

Bourgania began a great deal like any other European nation of the time. Monarchy was spread all throughout much of Europe, and Bourgania was greatly influenced by it. Soon after Bourgania gained it’s independence they appointed their first monarch, King Alberweiss II. Alberweiss and his decedents (called the Alberucnics) ruled for only roughly 120 years, which made it one of the shortest monarchs to ever rule a European nation. In 1643 Bourganese nationalists started an uproar in Prolecotria (the capital city) and forced the last Bourganese monarch, King Duchaster IV to flee the country. A temporary government was set up of mostly nationalist leaders who led the revolution. This group decided to found The Republic of Bourgania to give the citizens more rights, and create a stronger nation.

The newly formed republic grew as the country did; it grew in strength, as well as political power. The New Republic as some called it decided that it was in the best interest of the country to stay out of foreign affairs and wars. They practiced this during both the Great War (World War I) and World War II. Avoiding hostilities gave Bourgania a distinct advantage. It gave Bourgania a change to build up its military, economy and form a strong government, but as the Bourganese Army Grew in strength, so did another threat to the republic. Borgania’s commanding general saw an opportunity to turn the still growing nation in a different direction; his own direction.

On September 21, 1941, not even a year after World War II was finished, General Vielhoft began siege on Prolectoria using his military strength. Without an army, or civil defence, it soon fell and General Vielhoft ceased the capital building. Vielhoft exiled all the government officials from the country and sealed off the borders from the fleeing populace. Within the week General Vielhoft declared himself Supreme Dictator of Bourgania. Most of the population soon acceped the dictatorship as their government without question, and went on living their lives. Vielhoft, now in his final years is expected to pass the dictatorship onto his son, Francis Vielhoft II.
